Well the Type 052D has like half the gas turbine engines of the 055 but more than half the VLS cells.
The main disadvantage is the amount of crew per ship but manpower is not exactly an issue China has.

Manpower is starting to become an issue, or the PLA in general won't be making such slick, highly budgeted recruitment ads. With ships becoming more technologically complex, you are going to have higher requirements in technical literacy and that can filter your recruitment prospects. Over time, wages are going to be higher, so yes, overall running costs does matter, and you may get a better bang of the buck with the Type 055. Nowadays, for the rest of the world modern frigates maybe gaining in size but their crew complement maybe decreasing.

That's the reason why they should have included 128 silos in the VLS of the type 055 destroyer. Now they can only increase the # of silos in the type 055A.

Well it is still the main element with the radar systems. obviously, the the number is one thing, but there is also the diameter which has to be taken into account.
