Well, I can not read the Chinese there...but the way they are manning the rails, it certainly looks like a commissioning or turn over ceremony to me.

Yes it's the first type 052D commissioned just now.

Rumor says one more is in sea trial and two more are fitting out. With another 4 in production and 4 more ordered. We shall see all 12 by end of this decade.

If Kunming really is commissioned,, I wonder if it may have been expedited to honour the victims of the knife stabbing...

either way, by the end of 2014 I'm sure it is fair to expect the last two 052Cs to finally enter service as well, so that will be 3 DDGs commissioned in a year, not bad.

From there on, I'd be happy if the PLAN can commission 1.5-2 052Ds a year until all 12 are finished and/or 055 enters production.

Now that we get some perspective of the new 130mm gun with sailors standing next to it - it is just Massive! Looks like some sort of ancient artillery piece sticking out of a fort rather than a naval 'gun'.

2014年3月21日上午，我国新型导弹驱逐舰昆明舰举行入列仪式，正式加入人民海军战斗序列。昆明舰是我国自行研制设计生产的新一代导弹驱逐舰，舷号172，具有较强的区域防空和对海作战能力。

央视新闻【新型导弹驱逐舰昆明舰正式加入人民海军战斗序列】今天上午，我国新型导弹驱逐舰昆明舰举行入列仪式，正式加入人民海军战斗序列。昆明舰是我国自行研制设计生产的新一代导弹驱逐舰，舷号172，具有较强的区域防空和对海作战能力.

昆明舰是中国海军服役的首艘052d驱逐舰，也是目前我国最先进的导弹驱逐舰。该舰采用了新型导弹垂直发射装置、大型有源相控阵雷达等设备。其满载排水量7500吨，长155米，宽18米，吃水6.5米，最大速度30节。中国设计师决定为其配备codog新型动力系统，包括两台qc208燃气涡轮发动机(功率各37500马力)和两台mtu12v1163tb83柴油机(总功率超过1.3万马力)，乘员280人。有消息表明，在今后几年内中国海军还将至少装备10艘052d型驱逐舰。

中国设计师在研制052型系列驱逐舰时充分借鉴了国外经验，配备两套垂直发射装置，各配32枚导弹，能根据不同的任务配备不同数量的防空、反舰或反潜导弹，如新型红旗-9反导防空导弹系统。此外改舰还装备有70倍口径130毫米新型单管隐身舰炮、新型综合指挥作战系统和某新型主动相控阵雷达系统。整体综合性能和隐身能力得到了空前提高，舰载动力设备得到系统升级。

使用新型垂直发射装置后拥有更强的战斗力，也是052d被戏称为“中国版阿利伯克”的原因之一。确实，能够使用各型导弹的垂直发射装置，让052d型驱逐舰与美国“阿利伯克”驱逐舰非常相似。根据现有消息，这种相似性还会增加，因为除了垂直发射装置之外，中国新型战舰还装备517m型有源相控阵雷达和新型作战信息指挥系统，类似设备的使用能够大幅提升052d的战斗潜力，使其更像美军战舰。

052d型驱逐舰使用“红旗-9”导弹，能够消灭200公里内的目标。在近距离对空防御方面，可以使用fl-3000n防空武器系统。要想消灭数公里内的空中目标，可以使用两门h/pj-12高炮。在攻击敌方潜艇时，可以使用两具鱼雷发射管。关于052d反舰武器的准确情报，现在暂时还没有。不同的消息源声称，该型战舰可能使用中国现有型号的武器，但是也不排除制造新型反舰导弹的可能性。

052d型驱逐舰能够远离海岸行动，执行各种任务，搜索和消灭各类目标，战斗力较强，适合在为争夺钓鱼岛而爆发武装对抗时使用。

Hmmvw over on CDF said this is probably the handover ceremony, which I would tend to agree with.

After all, this is still at JNCX rather than the ship's assigned base, and there is no flag handover, little ceremony and fanfare at all.

So I expect 172 will now make its way down to Sanya and actually get commissioned there, hopefully with the honours and circumstance which this ship deserves.
Crazy to think this ship was only launched a year and a half ago... I wonder if 172 is being commissioned quickly so the PLAN can rapidly train its sailors up ready for future 052Ds. I can't imagine that all of the systems on the ship are fully operational.


Edit: lol never mind the photos above show it was a commissioning ceremony... Weird that it wasn't at Sanya.
