Actually gas turbines for emergency extra power seems a perfectly possible idea, they are much easier to start and much lighter than boiler complexes and can draw on the aviation kerosene supply when needed. Many conventional ships have small secondary engines( often diesel piston engines) so I can't see why a CVN must be purely nuclear.

Every carrier has a backup supply even nuclear ones. Emergency generators do not need exhausts so large that they rival the full size main engines on conventional carrier, in fact most CVN had auxiliary exhaust on the side of the hull, you could probably find a picture of it on the Ford if you look for it.

Estimates show that the chimney-like structure, if indeed acting as a vent for exhaust gas, only has about one-third of the exhaust capacity of cv003. And if gas turbines are used instead of steam turbines the exhaust size provides for even less power.

I still hold my opinion that if this is truly an exhaust structure it is probably for auxiliary power.

@Captain says this actually is some kind of WIP area from the previous bridges that might be part of offices and data storage(?) not sure what he meant by that.
That could make some sense. The separate funnel could be an independent test for a Type 003 sister where they separate the chimney from the island ala the UK carriers.

Some suggest the aft part of the island is only for CV-19, the front part is for both CV-19 & CVN-20. So a static island can do tests for both carriers in parallel construction. Which also means that CV-19 will have a different island configuration from CV-18.

CV-19 will have an island consisting of both front part & aft part. And CVN-20's island is just like the front part here.

IMO this speculation does make sense, especially suits the parallel construction claim by Chuancha Trios.

The separate funnel is simply too short, it is not suitable for the aircraft carrier

No, if it's indeed the 004, a CVN, then there's no chimney. There's no feasible scenario in which a CVN needs so much auxiliary power as to necessitate a whole chimney.

The most likely explanations for the persistence of the chimney at the mockup site are:

a) It's testing two things at the same time. The island of the 004 and a chimney configuration for another project.

b) It's still under construction and the chimney will be gone when it's done.

c) The "chimney" is part of the inherent structure of the mockup carrier, i.e. office space.

d) It's not a CVN at all.
