00X/004 future nuclear CATOBAR carrier thread

YES, that is exactly what I mean by "balcony" at the back of the ship. IMO, this is an absolutely crucial part of an aircraft carrier and carrier operations.

Back when 003 just came out and confirmed to be without a balcony, I was absolutely furious and continuously voiced out my displeasure despite many amateurs told me to overlook this fatal flaw. If 004 is still without a balcony then I'm done with this, that would make this ship inherently inferior from the very start as it greatly limits the operations capacity and sortie rate of the ship indefinitely. What's the point of taking 1 step forward and then 2 steps backwards? The designers need to deeply reflect on themselves.

P.S. In emergency situations, those jet engines can be attached to the ship directly instead of being on wheels. Might increase the top speed of the ship to over 45 knots as speculated by @bd popeye.
I don't think that's how it works in regards to the jet engines however I do agree that they should've had a much larger opening in the fantail of 003.

That last paragraph is clearly a joke lmao. @bd popeye was previously talking about how the true top speed of carriers are classified and may well be over 30+ knots. Perhaps he should also consider adding the thrust of the afterburners in the fantail too to get more accurate numbers.

Also, I dont consider 003 to have fantails. Those openings are smaller than russian windows and definitely not functional at all for jet engine test. Making it completely useless.

What point would thay serve, Kirov only needed it due to underpowered nuclear propulsion which isn't a issue with 004 also if you need more electrical capacity why not just design the reactors to be a tad bit larger rather then trying to stuff in a extremely complicated combined nuclear and gas turbine power system.
If the 004 were to be conventionally powered (assuming steam like 003 and Kitty Hawk), how many boilers and power generators do you need to make a 100,000 tons carrier to sustain 30+ knots? Wouldn't those conventional power generation equipment take up too much space if the carrier weren't CVN?

How does everyone know that 004 is 550m to 600m. How can u tell?
Very unlikely. Given the width of 43 meters (compared to Ford and Nimitz's 41 meters) beam, 004 is likely to marginally bigger in displacement (say 90,000-100,000+ standard displacement). So the length is still around 340-360 meters, marginally longer than US CVNs. But again, we are still at very early stage of construction.

Bullshit. Kirov's propulsion was rather overpowered than underpowered, the 2 boilers were for emergency power only, if both reactors had to shut down, the popular myth is that they were introduced under direct orders from Adm. Gorshkov. In practice, they were also used leaving and entering base. GT generators make sense on a CV, they use basically the same fuel as the planes.
