So they built 2 aircraft carriers. One of them has misaligned shafts, the carriers are V/STOL so the vessels are limited to using a single variant of a single foreign made aircraft, they don't have enough aircraft for populating a single carrier reliably in peacetime, and they can't provide enough escorts to a single carrier reliably without a disruption in training... This is the vaunted Royal Navy guys... I laugh at people who think RN has an institutional knowledge edge over PLAN. They don't. Their carrier fleet is a vanity piece of limited utility even in GWOT-style wars. But people still talk about their gLoBaL foRCe prOjEcTioN capability.

Surely it is of China's interest to enter talks with America to reduce both side nuke counts to at most 1500~. That's within the realm where Chinese missile defense can possibly work or at least mitigate enough to ensure the survival of the nation, if given several more years to perfect their craft. And a smaller amount of nukes will favor the side with FOBS and HGVs during a first strike.
Who do you think is more likely to launch a "preemptive" first strike? Nuclear stockpiles should be at least large enough to ensure second strike ability, otherwise you're just encouraging nuclear war.

A solution is to remind them of the other NATO nukes in France and Britain. The US thinks it's in a two vs one struggle with China and Russia when it's actually 3 against 2. France could build some more if that makes the Americans feel better about themselves

Continental US airspace is massive and incredibly expensive to secure. Just look at the challenges the USSR faced during the Cold War. If US enemies can instill a multi-directional threat towards the North American continent and force massive buildup of AA there (to protect from, say, missiles in Cuba), they'll bleed out US defense resources easily. Attack from the North is difficult with Canada as a buffer, but plenty of states to threaten national security from the US South and Southeast.
Perfect, the only way to deter the American threat is to threaten the American homeland. These people think they can't be touched. Make them aware that you can put missiles onto balloons as well and that they should expect some targeted strikes on New York and LA if they dare to attack the Chinese mainland

Is it possible that the reason McCarthy "has nothing scheduled" for Taiwan not because he doesn't want to, but because DPP can't politically afford to have him come? The last time Tsai entertained Pelosi and China launched live-fire drills, their constituents woke up and they lost the resulting election in a KMT sweep. In that case, it would be a smart strategy to use the leftist MSM to call McCarthy out as "all bark and no bite" and bait him into visiting late 2023, ensuring DPP is all but buried in the 2024 presidential elections.

It'll be good for the KMT to cement ties with China but at the same time do something so the party stands for something other than "CCP sympathizers", which they'll inevitably be branded as.
I doubt the DPP (or anyone in Taiwan) has much of a say when an American politician decides to go Taiwan. There were rumours the DPP tried to cancel Pelosi's visit at the last minute.

I interpret McCarthy's statement as deliberately ambiguous. He's certainly leaving the option of a visit open.

Americans have a lot on their plate right now and the last visit was quite recent, but they do seem to gain from inflaming tensions with China.

Tsai bribed McCarthy not to come. Now imagine that…

In the long run it is in China's interests to have a strategic arms limitation treaty with America but while America has conventional military superiority it isn't.

Right now China gets the best of both worlds, arms limitation and inspection of American nuclear sites and equipment via their friends in Moscow while China's nuclear deterrent is unrestricted unknown to anyone outside China.

It doesn't look like it'll be that way for long though as the Russians seem intent on ripping up every treaty they've signed with the Americans and rearming like back in the days of the Cold War. It wouldn't surprise me if we see them trying to deploy nukes in Cuba or in South America again, and if Iran and Saudis can promise not to nuke each other I think both will become nuclear powers.

When the balloon goes up (kek), the KMT will be needed to use their contacts to order the ROC military to stand down; look at Russia invading the Ukraine and expecting the UKR to stand down due to assumptions made re their ppl still being in power as back in 2014 (even with Zelensky and Putin on the verge of negotiating a favourable outcome until the Atlanticists pushed for war).

Didn't Saudi Arabia has some kind of backdoor agreement with Pakistan where they could borrow Pakistani nukes in case of conflict with Iran?
There were rumours saying just that when it was revealed they were buying DF-21s from China. I'm not sure how truthful it is as to be a real nuclear power you need to be able to refurbish warheads independently.

I think it was just lazy journalism from someone unaware how effective ballistic missiles can be even without nuclear warheads (see the current Russian war, Iran, etc)

If the US wants to negotiate nukes, just open with this:

"Just let us know the number of nuclear weapons per capita you would like for both of us and we will accept."

Doesn't even need to be a meeting, just an email.
Officially, the US has around 5,550 nuclear warheads. The US has a population of around 333 million. Per-capita, one American nuke is equivalent to 60,000 Americans.

The current best guesstimate of China's nuclear stockpile by Pentagon is around 400 nuclear warheads. China has a population of around 1.411 billion. Per-capita, one Chinese nuke is equivalent to 3.528 million Chinese.

To-be-frank, I am always a firm believer that China should have a military power that is scaled according to the size of her population. Therefore, if China were to use the same nuke-to-citizen ratio as the US, that would be 1,411,000,000/60,000 = 23,500+ nuclear warheads.

That means China should have 23 thousand nuclear warheads at minimum.

Take that, DC! (lol)
