Why in the world are they not hitting the power generation plants? Are they fighting a war or are they trying to win the Nobel Peace Prize?
I think it’s lure to tie up Ukraine’s limited and depleting resources.
If the Russians just wiped out all the power plants in one night, it would collapse the grid, then what? The damage would be so extreme it would be impossible to bring it back online with ongoing hostilities so Ukraine no longer need to spread its SAMs and MANPADs thin and around the cities trying to defend its power infrastructure and can again be concentrated at the front to make life harder for Russian aviation.
Notice how Russian aviation looses seem to have basically stopped since they started infrastructure attacks. Before there were semi-regular shoot downs of helicopters and fast jets, but I struggle to remember the last time that happened.
I think that’s the main point and purpose of the infrastructure attacks. Makes it painful enough Ukraine have to defend against them, but not so overpowered as to kill the golden goose tying down all of Ukraine’s AD at the rear.
