Didn't the T-72B3 variants have been upgraded with 125mm 2A46M-5 gun that should be capable allowed use longer APFSDS penetrator?

No as far as I am aware, only the T-80BVM could handle the new gun and modified carousel. The T-72B3M would require the T-90M turret to be able to accept the modifications

And due to the high number of them they will generate an unpassable debris cloud. If not the starlink then the Chinese or Russian one, when the USA start to shoot them down.
Wouldn't be safer to fry them from the ground with a laser?.

The problem with the t-72 is that it still has somewhat shit composite underneath the ERA. I really wish they did more upgrades to the t-80U, since that turret armour is actually nice, unlike that on the t-80b which they decided to up armour with relikt instead.
Also, top attack missiles are still a thing.

I dont see anyone climbing out. Either they all died or dude was trying to blow up empty tank abandoned.
Yeah, probably not wanting to give it in good order while pulling back. When it cool down I don't know how much of it will be salvageable. Didn't look to burn the chassis that much. Engine, transmission, frame, tracks, it will find itself in a Russian salvage yard most likely and labelled has destroyed Russian tanks from uav footage..

The base T-72B Obr 1989 armor with K5 could defeat the western APFSDS rounds of the time from the front, including the M829. With newer thermals, better ERA and modernized FCS still is a valid tank, its main limitations being that the carousel can't handle the newer longer penetrators used by the T-80BVM and T-90M, lack of reverse speed and RWS.
Didn’t all the T-72 upgraded models suffer from lack of a dedicated and stabilized optics with night vision for the commander? It was only the T-90M that rectified this deficiency.

They did, though the last batches of the T-72B3M had an independent sight PK PAN for the commander between the hatches

Some where already spotted in Ukraine back in July with one of them captured, even.

With the heavy use of artillery in Ukraine, stockpiles of spare parts for all these flimsy sensors will need to be deep.

New tanks with 360 degree coverage, sensors for active defences, laser countermeasures, drones and atgm box will clearly need to make these survivable against waves of shrapnel and small suicide drones. The cost of repair will be high in similar conflicts with all these goodies.
