While the optics are certainly disappointing, Europe sanctions style blowback are not a desirable outcome, nor is throwing caution to the wind for the sake of a pr stunt

If the outcome isn't desirable just say the visit is not welcome. don't issue 100's of threats and warnings

This means absolutely nothing. Pelosi is at the airport talking about democracy. That’s the only thing Reuters would have on headlines. Absolutely terrible handling.

I would imagine now China would retaliate against the US economically, politically etc. Since there was no aggression other countries like the EU, etc would not be able to help the US with the response. Instead of everyone vs Russia like in Ukraine, its going to be purely China vs US in this issue, US allies can't sanction China for not intercepting a plane.

China should take a page out of India's playbook, claim they shot down the plane in local media and give a medal to a random Pilot.
