Note that the Washington ruling class does not benefit from the "Ukrainian gambit", it simply wanted to risk sacrificing Ukraine or sacrificing Ukraine in both cases to harm Russia.

Add to the pathological Russophobia, is the Mackinder Heartland Theory which heavily influences Atlanticist/US State Department thinking, Russia with its near limitless resources is the heartland, control Russia and they literally dominate the world... and the doorway to the heartland is eastern Europe. It's their long game, they've been playing since the Yeltsin years when US intel infiltrated the Yeltsin gov., things changed with Putin and so they focused on setting up a base in Ukraine. The Belarusian regime change failed in early 2021, so it's all Ukraine...

Interesting observation:
Saw several times Strela-10 engaging commercial drones.

Which is kinda...curious - because Strela-10 was considered outdated even by the first gulf war. But...change of conditions - stupidly ancient optical seeker(contrast, daylight only) still can stupidly track black target on a light background, even if it is the 2020s.

Basically ancient 1960s SAM system can do that most modern IR SAMs and AAMs with advanced imaging seekers can't.

Which is kinda...curious - because Strela-10 was considered outdated even by the first gulf war. But...change of conditions - stupidly ancient optical seeker(contrast, daylight only) still can stupidly track black target on a light background, even if it is the 2020s.

Basically ancient 1960s SAM system can do that most modern IR SAMs and AAMs with advanced imaging seekers can't.

A good rock still crush skulls... Lots of old vehicules and weapons systems will live their last battles in Ukraine. Soviet era weaponry will be replaced with new one in Russia.
