Autocracies will be most nervous: they own half of the world’s $20trn pile of reserves and sovereign wealth assets. While China can inflict huge economic costs on the West by blocking supply chains, it is now clear that in the event of a war over Taiwan, the West could freeze China’s $3.3trn reserve pile. Even some democracies like India, which has avoided condemning Russia’s invasion, may worry they are more vulnerable to Western pressure. Over the next decade technological changes could create new payments networks that bypass the Western banking system. China’s digital-currency trial has 261m users. Today it is hard to park trillions of dollars outside Western markets, but in time more countries may seek to diversify their reserves by investing more elsewhere.

Is this true or western propaganda? There were 6000 Chinese citizens in Ukraine at the start of the conflict a week ago. 2500 have been repatriated in a week. That leaves 3500.

Dude. There is no need for the top part at all. This is a Ukrainian conflict, not Taiwan.
As for the bottom part, it is possible that some students are stuck in a war zone and can’t get out. Also, based on the Twitter thread, some users claimed that Zelensky confirmed it on TV. Since they gave names out as well, unfortunately that may be true.

This however would do lethal damage to the western monetary institution to the point where it can no longer function. Those reserves doesn’t carry as much weight of Chinese goods in the event of a world wide shortage of necessary goods that is need for the USA to function, not to mention, That it would cause many other nations to dump the USA dollar at an even greater pace. This in itself would hasten the death of the US dollar so really, the act of attempting to freeze foreign reserves like this would greatly increase inflation given that other nation particularly in the Middle East would soon be loathed to accept money that is good for nothing but being frozen at the pleasure of the USA when They feel like it. Russia is now unearthing what cards the USA can play so that China and Russia together can work on alternatives to the western system to avoid incidents like this so I wouldn’t paint the situation as a real win for America but a long term loss of immense implications. The USA cannot afford for the dollar to die under any circumstances but actions like this with the freezing of assets could inspire China to nationalist all western and foreign company in China to basically cut the USA off for all resources and given that current level require to keep the USA functioning, they would be in very deep trouble.

The 6000 estimate seems to be accurate since it was even mentioned by globaltimes. Can’t say how many is left but the embassy is claiming the vast majority have departed from Ukraine. Article claims that 6000 have registered but a lot of them left on their own. At the bare minimum, it appears +3000 are out.

Update: Nearly all Chinese nationals have been evacuated from Ukraine: Chinese Embassy

More than 3,000 Chinese citizens have been safely moved from Ukraine to neighboring countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Thursday

The embassy said the evacuation of Chinese nationals from the country is close to completion, with the exception of a few cities in eastern Ukraine.

Over 6,000 Chinese have been registered in Ukraine for the evacuation, according to the embassy, and apart from the organized transfers, many have left on their own with assistance of immigration procedures.

The Chinese Embassy in Romania told the Global Times on Wednesday that they have received over 1,000 Chinese citizens from Ukraine.

The Russian army is about to capture the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe. In the Ukrainian city of Energodar, Zaporozhye region, residents blocked roads to the city to save the nuclear plant, but the mayor gave orders for everyone to return to their homes.
Better not having a battle arround a nuclear power plant... great asset but can ruin a good part of Ukraine for hundreds of years.

I don’t know if it was reported in the thread yet but the Ukrainian delegation that met with the Russian representatives in Belarus this morning were transported to said meeting by Polish Air-Force UH60s.

That must be right.

During the first meeting, Ukrainian delegation was flown into Belarus on board Polish aircraft, then changed to Belarusian helicopter to the meeting site. Ukraine demanded to fly the Polish aircraft (likely heli) straight to the meeting site, it was rejected by Belarus.

The site for the 2nd talk is just by the side of the border, eliminating the need to change to Belarusian helicopter, something Ukrainian want to avoid.

As I see, the "whose aircraft flying where" is just political and diplomatic necessity, it means nothing more.
