I think PRC's neutral stance is very enlightened. China is implicitly against Russian invasion of Ukraine. China is just not willing to hurt its own interest to sanction others. The west has called it a 'pro-Russia neutral.' But to me, that's a pro-China position.
The reality is before Zelensky, China and Ukraine have a good working relationship. Even under Poronshenko, considered by a lot to be a western puppet, was the one who signed BRI agreement.
Even with the Xinjiang UN condemnation and Motor Sich fiascos, there was some thaw as the UN condemnation was later withdrawn.
All these cellphone videos may have very well been taken by a Xiaomi and uploaded onto a Huawei powered network. Both are the #1 in their segment of the Ukrainian market.
Also, considering their outdated Soviet era industrial complexes, refurbishment with Chinese equipment would be far more affordable for companies than German and Japanese machinery.
Considering all of this, there is no surprise that China is not cheerleading this invasion.
