At the time, the ship's then commanding officer Captain Steve Moorhouse said it was safe and that in his experience leaks were a 'weekly' problem for warships.

Thats a yikes from me, speaks to either poor design or poor maintenance...

I'm sure you're fully aware that HMS Queen Elizabeth is going to the Far East next year, not HMS Prince of Wales. HMS PoW isn't entering service before 2023.

Or a third option - a faulty part/installation that doesn't say anything about the design or maintenance.

The larger the ship, the more complex and more opportunities for something to go wrong. Charles de Gualle took over a decade to commission and had a broken prop during sea trials. I think it was Admiral Kuznetsov had problems in that the water kept freezing that meant blocked toilets for half the crew. Varyag/Liaoning went into drydock in 2005 and was "commissioned" in 2012, but officially classed as a training ship until a few years ago. We've got no idea what might have gone wrong in those years.

I'm getting increasingly sold on SPEAR 3 for the F-35. Being able to carry eight internally and more on the wings means that a single F-35 can deliver a lot of firepower.

More army cuts incoming(?). British ground forces will have 70k soldiers and 150 updated Challenger 2 tanks if things go as planned.

A cut in the number of troops is expected in a defence review, due to be published next month.
Options include losing up to 10,000 soldiers from the regular Army's notional strength of 82,000 in order to help fund its modernisation.

The Telegraph is reporting the cut in buy of F-35B to the 48 . Also reporting that the MOD has been re looking at Cats and Traps

It’s pretty awful news, especially with the reduction of Typhoons as well, the number of available front line fighters is getting very low. I would like the F-35B’s to be solely Navy but doubt that will happen.
