Sounds like they'll be getting a good upgrade. New turret/gun, new communications, sights, an Active Protection System (and other things not listed).

As far as I can recall, it was always part of the plan for the taskgroup to engage in anti-Daesh operations. If HMS Queen Elizabeth has not already departed for the Suez Canal, it will be shortly - HMS Defender is already on the way to the canal.
