South China Sea Strategies for other nations (Not China)

As I suspected, Vietnam rejects US request to stop their reclamation, though I find it a stretch to say it's merely to prevent erosion of current infrastructure when pics of Sin Cowe Island shows it doubled in size. But the answers about sovereignty is no different than China.

IMHO, it was a request that was not well considered or thought out in the first place.

The very idea of making such a request when shear common sense told you that it would not be acceptable is pure folly. It has placed the US in a position of looking foolish...which can only erode position and influence.

Oh well...things are going to play out as they do.

China has done phenomenal work in the SCS. Eclipsing all other comers by literal orders of magnitude. Yes, Vietnam had done some reclamation. Taiwan has done a little. The Philippines too...but all of them combined pale in comparison to the PRC projects.

I wouldn't use the word "Phenomenal" to express the neck breaking pace PRC is doing in reclaiming land.
If my source is correct PRC had reclaimed more land then the other nations had claimed combined.

You mean occupied, not claimed. China, Vietnam, Philippines all claim the entire Spratly group. As for reclamation more than anyone else, when China decide to do anything it is always on a big scale. Look at how much high speed rails China have built in a few years.

I would not go there if I were you. That line of reasoning cuts both ways like a two edged sword besides the distorted logic as a defence.

"Impressive"? "Amazing"? "Inspiring"? "Monumental"? :p
Or if you're on the other side of the fence... "terrifying"? "provocative"? "illegal"? "dastardly"? "moustache-twirlingly-evil"?

How about disastrous to the enviorment and natural habitat?
The distruction of shallow corral reef which is a natural breeding ground for small fries is going to devistate the natural fish resources in the coming decades.

well, the USN Pacific Fleet commander coined the term Great Wall of Sand. So he acknowledge the it is phenomenal achievement as well, on par with an UNSECO Heritage Site. At the same time, he also acknowledge the defensive nature of the reclamation project.
