and with all due respect the path you shown takes it through Iran and Afghanistan which is not exactly like flying over Norway or Sweden.

What's wrong with Iran?

As for Afghanistan, has the Taliban ever demonstrated an ability to shoot down aircraft flying higher than a helicopter? If they ever do, then Afghanistan should and can be bypassed as well.

On the other hand, the Ukraine rebels had downed several aircraft in the days immediately prior to MH-17, and the ISIS have seized large amounts of arsenal from the Iraqi Army.

Once again, if you value your life, don't ever take Malaysian Airlines:

Huh? Just because of an earlier tragedy, the airline is automatically more guilty of the next one? What kind of logic is that?

What about the party who shot the plane down. They are less guilty?

I was talking about risk, not guilt.

If Malaysia Air is guilty of something, it is of dangerously risky decisions.

Again, why just Malaysia Airlines? 28 other airlines were also making " dangerously risky decisions" before the black day.
If you're saying that, then I have no qualms at all, but bear in mind we're making this deductions with the benefit of hindsight.

Before this, I didn't hear anyone screaming hell why the 29 airlines (except the U.S. airlines?) were flying through a war zone.

Probably because none of us knew about it. One of the things this tragedy has brought to light is that, we need to pay attention not only to where a plane is going, but also *how* it's getting there.

As for singling out Malaysia Air, that's just how people assess risks. The fact that they may be flying over Syria now doesn't help matters.

Given the abundance of pro-western narratives in the media, here is some pro-Moscow narratives so that we can see the stories from both side.

Here are the 10 questions about the disaster Russian foreign ministry has for Kiev.

It's in Russian. Here is the Google translated version from another forum.

1. Ukrainian authorities immediately identified the militia as the perpetrators of the tragedy. What is the basis of such findings?

2. Could Kiev to report all the details of using BUKs in a war zone? Most importantly - why these systems are deployed there, as the militia no planes?

3. What are the causes of inactivity of Ukrainian authorities on the formation of an international commission? When such a committee will work?

4. Are the armed forces of Ukraine international experts to present papers on accounting for missiles, air-to-air and ground-to-air ammo and anti-aircraft missiles?

5. Whether these funds objective control on the movement of the Ukrainian Air Force aircraft on the day of the tragedy brought international commission?

6. Why Ukrainian air traffic controllers allowed deviation of the route of the aircraft to the north side of the "anti-terrorist operation zone"?

7. Why was not completely closed to civilian aircraft airspace over the combat zone, especially because in this area there was no solid field of radar navigation?

8. Could Kiev to comment on reports in the net, ostensibly on behalf of the Spanish air traffic controllers working in Ukraine, which shot down over the territory of Ukraine "Boeing" was accompanied by two Ukrainian military aircraft?

9. Why Security Service of Ukraine has begun without international representatives work with recordings of talks with Ukrainian crew dispatchers "Boeing" and Ukrainian radar data?

10. How were the lessons from previous similar disasters Russian Tu-154 in 2001 in the Black Sea? Then the leaders of Ukraine until the last minute denied any involvement of the Armed Forces of the country to the tragedy until irrefutable evidence showed no guilt official Kiev.

Here is a Youtube clip with English translation of Russian foreign ministry's own forensic analysis of MH17 crash.

OK gents, but I think that general discussion of Malaysia Airlines and other war zones is in danger of taking this very serious topic, even more seriously off topic.

Lets just stick to MH17 and its relevance to the subject in hand.

...and if by some chance an airline is blown out of the sky over Afghanistan or Iran, people will be jumping on the bandwagon accusing said Airline on why they flew over such 'dangerous' territories.

You KNOW that is what's going to happen! As they say hindsight is always 20/20 and easy to criticize and 2nd guess after the fact.

I will say that's an example of pure prejudice.

The fact that they may be flying over Syria now doesn't help matters.
Fact? We have seen a lot of facts becoming broad faced lies in due time. We'll just have to wait and see.

You are free to think it's prejudice. Everything can be dismissed as coincidence if you really want to. Others, however, are not so willing to discount the risks.

Lightning don't usually strike twice in one spot. Some bad voodoo going on with Malaysian airlines and no way I'm flying with them even if tickets are cheap.

Hell, I wouldn't fly with them if they *paid* me!
