So I guess the important unknown is this: did the guys at RCpower try to approximate a reasonable T/W ratio with their J-20 model? I know they did with their F-22.

Jeff raised some very good points that the model doesn't begin to approximate weight distributions, stresses, etc. of the real thing. It's therefore not valid to extrapolate the performance of J-20 based on an RC model.

That said, the comparisons made in the videos are between the RC model of J-20 and RC model of F-22, the Eurofighter, the F-18, etc. I believe these comparisons of RC models have more validity, but how much they translate into differences in the performance of their real-life counterparts is another matter.

It's certainly all very interesting.

The most important aspect of the R/C model is that it is gyro-stabilized, that's what enables the slow-speed controllability of the model, it is Not aerodynamically stabilized by air-flow over the control surfaces or the wing, but it is a kool toy just like the little helicopters that every one enjoys flying, but it is the Gyro, not the canards that enable the R/C model.....

Yes it is.

And I am the first to admit that I was clearly wrong in my suspicions that it may have been PSd.

GREAT pictures coming out now.

And this one (and others with the chute breaking the high speed taxi tests) shows that they are right on the cusp of taking to the air.

These two pictures of the front end of aircraft 2001 and aircraft 2011 show some of the diferences between the two from this angle rather well. 2011 has a different saw-tooth pattern to its openings for the fornt gear and the weapons bays. Also shows the cockpit canopy difference pretty well:

Also here is an animated gif I made of the transition from 2001 to 2011 from the side view.

Not to pat myself on the back but I thought it was real and my earlier post highligted it.. A PSer would not have purposely 'distort' the wheel like that. It was probably in the middle of the turn andhe would also have stressed the EOTS by adding some color depth to it.

OTOH I'm quite sure the two snowman with sunglasses to the left are NOT real.

Also the cutouts on the side weapons bay doors are enlarged, possibly indicating a structurally strengthened AAM deployment device.

The models shown in that video, J20, F22, F18? do not have any gyros on board
