In a way Chinese went through the exact same path. The turning point for Chinese was the bombing of Chinese embassy in Belgrade, honestly if it was not Chinese government protection, US embassy and consulates would have been sacked. There were some events like the ship milkyway incident and J-8 incident before but only the direct and open attack lead to "enough is enough". The current US attack of Iranian soil and killing of Iranian people inside Iran serves that trigger "enough is enough".

China: Funding of PRC in 1949 and Korean war -- Iran: Islamic revolution. Most anti-west/US among population.
China: 1980s to 1990s West is god and always right -- Iran: some time after the revolution when they began to focus on economy.
China: Bombing of Chinese embassy, a wakeup call and turning majority's sentiment to US -- Iran: today.

"与世界接轨" / connct and align with the world (= west) was once a catch word in China even into 21st centry. Iranian are in the same phase as Chinese were 10 years ago. The same mentality evolvement can be seen in Russia today too.

Therefor, I never really blame Iranians and Russians for their supposedly west-loving attitudes because that is what everyone do including Chinese. In the end, raw physical strengh builds self confidence, results and facts on the ground makes one dare to question and challenge the establishment, all together they change everyone rivals and bystanders alike.

No, China was never in "West is god and always right" status.

As Deng put it, there is a "strategy window of 20 years so". Beacuse:
1 USA has other priorities.
2 USA already had China "island chained".
3 China is too hard to crack by force (tried during the Cold War).

China isn't just a few wise leaders. If you had personal experince in China since the 1980s, experience of where people want to send their kids for education, talking about pop stars, prasie achievements, worship social figures etc. etc. you should know.

Of course I know. Mostly, it is for the money and degree (which translates into money and status).

It is similar to asylum seekers, their real intention is money (easier life) but decorated with politics.
