Last I heard it was something like 30%-40% of Western companies using AI are using Chinese open source models. Now it’s 80%. Love how some of the commenters are attacking this guy and his European heritage just for making this video. Just goes to show you how lop-sided things were in favor of the West when they were the monopolistic powers of the world. They just can’t compete when anything is not 100% in their control. You hear capitalists say, “Let the market decide…” Easy to say when you’re in control of the market. Everything they say they believe in like freedom starts to break down when they’re not in control. So what kind of freedom were they talking about? It’s the kind of freedom that the most evil people can say for themselves. Their own freedom. They can say they’re for this and that but it’s a different picture when you find out they believe in it only for themselves.

Incredible. A single Chinese boomer understands foreign policy better in South Asia than the South Asians do.

He argues India made a major “strategic miscalculation” by siding with Israel before the US-Israel confrontation with Iran, betting that Iran would be quickly defeated and that an Israeli-dominated regional order would follow.

According to him, Modi hoped to become ‘America’s proxy policeman’ if Iran’s regime had collapsed. The calculation, he says, hinged on supporting Israel that would strengthen its ties with Washington, help advance the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.

He also linked this to India’s growing concerns about China and Pakistan, claiming India views US weapon system as essential to counter Chinese capabilities, and Israel could be a key channel in obtaining the same. But India miscalculated, leaving it diplomatically marginalized.

Liu accused India of a “series of strategic miscalculations” over the past decade, including misjudgement in post-COVID US-China rivalry, distancing itself from Russia during Russia-Ukraine war, expecting Trump to continue pro-India stance in his second term, and misjudging Iran’s military capabilities.

Shocking how stupid Jaishankar ("laser eyes") is. The Indian foreign ministry used to be staffed by smart and competent people but those days are long gone. India should outsource their thinking to Chinese scholars!

Chinese companies are focusing in ecosystem creation for a variety of reason. US companies are mostly focus on user growth, basically the netflixification of LLMs. thought Alibaby being a cloud provider had a mixed strategy.

The US seemingly is attempting every method to destroy China's global supply chain by banning certain components in products.

It’s a quixotic attempt. You’re supposed to have viable alternative sources of supply ready to go before imposing such bans — sources that can cushion any and all potential price volatility that results from them.
It seems the famous attribution to one of America’s five-star generals, Omar Bradley — “Professionals talk logistics while amateurs talk strategy” — is completely lost on these Neanderthals..

Most AI news focus on benchmark numbers of the latest models which are mostly one-shot tests on very complex tasks, but in practice nobody will actually spend thousands betting on AI returning an application that might or might not work, in the real world people divide problems into steps with checks in between, and in those cases the difference between say Opus 4.7 and Deepseek V4 or Kimi are basically non existent.

Anthropic uses Opus 4.7 to advertise their performance, but in practice unless you have infinite money, you're just using Sonnet most of the time and only switching to Opus 4.6 or 4.7 in rare instances, whereas with Deepseek or Kimi you can just do everything at Opus 4.6 level without a second thought, so Opus 4.7 benchmarking better than Deepseek or Kimi is actually meaningless because with finite money constraints the competition is actually between Chinese models at Opus 4.6 level and US models at Sonnet level... and then keep in mind Qwen 27B can beat Sonnet just running on your home PC

This is the exact same thing as what's happening with Chinese auto, US models are like a $1M car that can reach 300 kph while Chinese models are $20k cars that can reach 275 kph. Americans simply do not understand the concept of value, and the actual comparison isn't top line numberse but performance at equal price point: the performance from US models at Deepseek prices is practically useless.

And my $1M vs $20k comparision isn't arbitary, Opus 4.7 is literally 50x more expensive than Deepseek. At end of the day unless you have infinite money to throw at it, it's not a hard choice to make between spending $10 on something with 90% capability and spending $500 on something with 93% capability, and I'm speaking from experience.

The decision making apparatus is completely divorced from reality and runs on a potent mixture of vibes and copes. I personally blame the over-financialization of the U.S. economy for this. When shit-coins, AI slop and OnlyFans make 1000 times more than the production of physical goods, policy makers start believeing that merchandise grows on shelves and gasoline grows from fuel pumps.

I always have to give this reminder. When Royal leader visit for three hours it means he brought message that he does not want to leak. World will understand Power of Oil/Gas and the Soft Power.

I agree with that. Superpower/major power/regional power are bins that inadequately describe power politics today.

The irony is that China is often unwilling to impose. Take the current Philippines' proposed joint energy exploration for example. A perfectly reasonable request from China would have been "we are not comfortable negotiating with someone pointing missiles at us." There's literally nothing to lose; the missiles can only be removed at this point and energy exploration is genuinely mutually beneficial. But China was unwilling to simply let the Philippines suffer and sent relief energy, weakening their position.
If one believes that benevolence and mercy disqualify a country from the superpower moniker more than national power qualifies it, then China is not a superpower by that definition.
