Looks like Trump has failed. He's considering cease fire without reopening the strait of Hormuz.
Definitely sounds like Donny Boy wants to cut and run.
President Donald J. Trump is getting extremely desperate for an off ramp that'll allow the United States to avoid a bloody and unwinnable boots on the ground misadventure in Iran.
In fact, Trump looks to be getting desperate enough to be willing to sacrifice the sanctity of the petrodollar!
On March 6, 2026, Trump was "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!" from Iran:
Less than four weeks later, on March 31, 2026, Trump is now his intent to cease hostilities against Iran in the coming weeks without reopening the Strait of Hormuz, never mind securing Iran's "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!"
Trump apparently expects countries like France — and presumably also Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, whose bases the US has employed to strike Iran — to "fend for themselves:"
We'll be leaving very soon and if France or some other country wants to get oil or gas, they'll go up through the strait and uh Hormuz Strait. They'll go right up there and they'll be able to fend for themselves. I think it'll be very safe actually. But we have nothing to do with it.
What happens to the strait: we're not going to have anything to do with because these countries, China, China will go up and they'll fuel up their beautiful ships and they'll leave and they'll take care of themselves. There's no reason for us to do it.
We hit them hard. We got rid of a lot of a lot of the radicalized lunatics along the strait. But if they want something, but I would say that within uh two weeks, maybe two weeks, maybe three. We're hitting them very hard. Last night, we knocked out tremendous amounts of missile making facilities.
Trump can stop US strikes against Iran at any moment, but that alone won't suspend Iranian return fire. In turn, Trump may need to order American forces to redeploy beyond the reach of Iranian missile and drone strikes to ensure the safety of American servicemen and avoid further escalation.
Upon such a heroic American withdrawal from the Middle East, the GCC sheikhdoms will have little choice but to fundamentally restructure the regional security and financial architecture.
To put it succinctly: the outcome Trump is currently openly moving towards will force the GCC sheikhdoms to ask Beijing — and perhaps Moscow and/or even Brussels — to play an essential and irreplaceable role in "mending fences" with Tehran, and that'll almost certainly come . Should that occur, the petrodollar won't disappear overnight, but it will become an endangered species.
The petrodollar: another soon-to-be casualty of Making America Great Again!
