Genuine question - why are so many people buying ICE in China now, in 2026? For someone sitting outside China, I can't imagine even considering ICE at this point. 7/10 are ICE. This seems completely opposite to what we hear about China. Is the govt not pushing for ICE reduction enough or properly?
Yeah im surprised myself . I think the Chinese government should have adopted E.U policy of mandating all vehicles in China be EVs by 2035. I see no reason the government should keep supporting gas guzzling vehicles especially since the world is moving to EVs and China has a huge dominance in that sector unlike in Gas cars. No reason they shouldn’t speed up the process as much as possible
Okay, I read some subsidies were removed, so sales came down in 2026. Hopefully next Q we shall see better numbers after the Iran war/oil/gas supply. Though I would hope the society itself consider the long term picture rather than govt always pushing for it. At least in China, I see no reason for most people to even consider ICE. The charging infra is the best in the world, the prices are low. I see no reason why anyone would buy ICE, no matter what the govt says.
I did a calculation on the size of BYD's super charger buildout and how much solar panel and battery ESS is needed.
China already announced (back in 2020) a ban on sales of new ICE vehicles starting in 2035.
