OK you land 2000 especial forces in 1.6 million km2 and 90million people, in a country that is not in civil war and the worst terrain possible, it will basically be a hunting game of US soldiers.
Netanyahu has this obsession that somehow he can provoke a civil war like he did in Syria and Libya, he is misleading Trump with bad information, the protests at where not as big as the propaganda says and was mostly city liberals, the rural population is very conservative, the Mossad operation failed, the people are more angry not at the government but at the US, especially after the school bombing.
Marines could be there to do operations against Iran-aligned ships that pass through the straits. The so called 'shadow fleet.' Also, they can secure agianst Iranian attacks outside Iran. Just because Iran has not deployed troops overtly means little. If push comes to shove, it makes sense for Iran to fight in say, Iraq instead of just it's own territory.

Iraq war started with 250k, 6 carriers and that was with all ME bases accessible and ability to stage in safety right on the border.
He does not himself know what he wants to do with those token force and with only one carrier operable.
They're just trying to wing it as they go along, and pretending every dumb idea they come up with as the master plan all along.
This is important because i truly beleive Trump and Co. is happy to go along with being called stupid and lacking a cohesive strategy. T think the whole erratic/unpredictable approach is just a red herring and there is a real plan unfolding slowly without anyone being aware because they are so fixated on the losses and mistakes, but i think they already factored some, not all, of those in the grand plan.
Just because we dont agree with the grand plan of destroying the whole ME to allow Isr to become a hegemony doesnt mean its not happening.
The question is whether Iran had caught into the real strategy and are thwarting it or are they also focused on the surface level tactics and being primed for a big surprise?
