In fact, what China does NOT want is another Syria situation where a formerly neutral to favourable state became an active enemy state since current Syria is a slave of Israel and gestates Uighur ISIS fighters. This is the model that the U.S. and Israel wants for Iran which, considering the amount of business and oil involved with sino Iranian relations, would be unacceptable to Chinese grand strategy.
Thats the problem about showing how you're still protecting the old guard to give credibility. At the end of the day unless that guy returns to power, you have basically backed a failed investment that you have to write off completely. No matter how noble his intentions were, in the game of geopolitics, he is removed from the game and is no longer relevant. Actually the cost is negative because by holding onto the old guard, you now have a damaged relation with the new guard. Its why India is in such agony dealing with Bangladesh coz they are hosting Hasina who unless she returns is now nothing more than a criminal in Bangladesh.China shouldn't bother feeling sad about Assad's and his gang - and it's a stupid hill to bother with keeping - nor they need to hate the current Syrian government. the current Syrian government is a pragmatic one, and China can deal with it like they deal with Turkyie.
The Assad regime wasn't supportive for Russia or China, Assad's has lived in Paris more than Moscow, and they were a failed gang controlling a state that they destroyed, killed millions, made millions escape to other countries, and were just rotting in corruption & drug dealings.
The Syrian government obviously is leaning to the US because they're the one who have the influence there, and Syria can't stop Israel by force, but they can try kiss the orange one to make them stop.
Years will past, if Syria can stay intact, China will have a lot of chances to benefit from Syria there -- so that can be far in the future, like 5-10 years.
China's not the guard for him, Russia is, Russia is the one who supported him with military forces, money, intelligence,...etc. China is not seen as a guard for Assad, China wasn't on his bad side nothing more.Thats the problem about showing how you're still protecting the old guard to give credibility. First case in Hong Kong! Father sentenced to 8 months in prison
Father of anti-China and pro-independence activist Kwok Fung-yee sentenced! Involved in assisting his fugitive daughter with her funds
Forging signatures! Attempting to withdraw HK$90,000 from an insurance policy balance
Kwok Fung-yee fled overseas in 2020; a reward of HK$1 million was offered for her capture.
looks like the power of the rare earth card is starting to show
I think Russia would have quickly abandoned Syria but for Iran. Putin mistake is not removing this Lavrov and all the team. Israeli not deal with him.China's not the guard for him, Russia is, Russia is the one who supported him with military forces, money, intelligence,...etc. China is not seen as a guard for Assad, China wasn't on his bad side nothing more.
And China now deal with Syria in a moderate way, even though they know US will try to stop & jeopardize anything related to china there, but still Syria is way irrelevant now because of its state that China doesn't care to deal with it seriously in a bad or good way.
Note: Nothing about Assad or his family is noble.
