The Franco-German next gen fighter jet project, the FCAS, is risking cancellation.

The French wanted the FCAS to carry nukes and be able to operate from aircraft carriers. But the Germans didn't want those because they don't have both. So the two nations are locked in a disagreement that could unravel the FCAS program that started in 2017. Europeans...

That France would require FCAS to be both nuclear- and carrier-capable was obvious from the outset. These items could only have come as a surprise if German politicians had signed up to the joint effort without giving it even the slightest thought or seeking even the most cursory advice. I'm sure Chancellor Merz does not wish to imply that his predecessors were that incompetent.

There are any number of plausible reasons why a collaboration of this nature could fail to progress, and certainly many of them involve French intransigence. But if Chancellor Merz is putting the French requirement for carrier compatibility forward as a roadblock, it implies that it is Germany's position that has changed, rather than that of France.

Of course it is entirely reasonable for German requirements to change, and one can certainly imagine why they might've, i.e. the war in Ukraine. It could well be that Germany is pushing for a larger aircraft with more range and payload, akin to GCAP, while France wants to hold size and weight down for carrier operations and perhaps future export prospects, a repeat of one of the

behind the Rafale/Typhoon split.

On the other hand, perhaps Berlin should reconsider just how "irrelevant" a nuclear-delivery capability actually is for FCAS.

2000 years ago or so, the Romans infamously suffered a military disaster at Teutoberg leading Caesar Augustus to scream to the dead commander ”Varus! Give me back my legions!”.

Will we see the same with the potential loss of two or even three aircraft carriers? Trump and MAGA screaming at their screens, ”give me back my carriers!!”

France's Dassault was demanding 80% work share rather equal split as original agreed. Germany wants equality so it doesn't let its industrial expertise atrophy, whereas France refused to rely on less experienced partners and give up it's prized expertise and IP for free. When France see others as a piggy bank to subsidize the project, that's when it started falling apart. The nuclear delivery or carrier is just an convenient excuse to part ways.

I predict GCAP will face similar issues around IP sharing, work share, and national egos.

Classic Indian nepotism. Xbox is finished.
Tbf Xbox was already losing HARD to PlayStation and Nintendo when Phil was in charge. At this point I'm just praying for this AI Indian to end this slow and painful suffering once and for all. Full support for American tech sanskritisation on this one.

Recently I start to think maybe the idea of a console is dumb after all. Maybe the Chinese console would be a HarmonyOS RISC-V mini PC or something in 10 years. Who knows

Ford is actually the least advanced and least capable carrier that US has. Cause it can't carry F-35.

Consoles only really made sense in the 80's and 90's when computers weren't powerful enough to run games AND do office work together so you needed specialized hardware to actually run games which of course isn't a thing anymore since even a PC with a IGPU can run most games.

i am hoping the same for Nintendo because of the way they behave with people making derivative works of their IPs.

Apparently, the Chinese military is sharing photos of US air bases in the region.

The Chinese state, does things in a very static manner. If they do something, or use a particular word, then there is no doubt about the message being conveyed.

Those pictures all over Twitter from Chinese spy satellites, is straight up trolling.

Looks like the proverbial line in the sand here, Russia and China will help Iran and uphold the legit rights of the BRICS organization, while India too busy selling out.

:D

No, I don’t think Iran is where China and Russia will draw the line. The primary reasons being Iran isn’t important enough to either Russia or China, and the fact that Iran has thus far proven itself to be incredibly underwhelming in all important aspects needed to stay in such a fight, never mind win it.

Iran isn’t the first or last domino for China or Russia, any more than Libya, Syria or Venezuela were. China and Russia can afford to let Iran fall and it doesn’t really mean that much to either. This means that Russia and China especially, can afford to be patient and only make a move when it looks like the opportunity is right. Because if there is one thing you can bet on, it’s that America cannot and will not stop after Iran.

Indeed, an easy win over Iran will just accelerate them to their next target, just like how Venezuela did for Iran. This is basically like a game of poker where America is the annoying loon who does all in at the first opportunity every hand. China and Russia can afford to just wait for the right hand before calling, and that’s precisely the right strategy against such an opponent.

Now, China and Russia may give Iran some help and toys to give them a fighting chance, but neither will bet big on Iran unless and until Iran demonstrate some basic resolve to stand up to the Americans and show some basic capabilities to give them a bloody nose.

If the Iranians will not fight to save themselves, no amount of support and help from Russia or China will save them. Just like how all the trillions America poured into Afghanistan counted for jack shit in the end.

If Iran actually cleaned house and actually operate their gear like the Houthis do then there is a slight chance. But with their president me leading for Trump even as three carrier groups are gathering at their doorsteps I really don’t think so. The thing about rapists is that the more you beg, the more excited they get.
