Are those gym weight images legit or just PS? It's just bewildering that they couldn't think about and solve something as basic as radar mounting points, and make you wonder what else is in the same situation, both F-35 wise and US MIC as a whole.

To be fair, radar mounting points in context of radar readiness is actually not a simple matter to solve especially if various segments of the program are not operating fully synchronized with one another. It's not a matter of technological sophistication, but just program management.

Those images do seem a little bit too wild to be true and doesn't fully make sense -- based on the hoists in the background, it looks like the airframe is a crash recovery/training article, so even if the plates themselves are real and the image isn't fabricated, I'm sure the actual ballast used in the real airframes aren't just gym plates.

- Block 4 F-35s are slated for APG-85 (Lot 17, 18, 19)
- APG-85 isn't anywhere near ready
- Need to wait till 2028 (Lot 20 onwards)
- See if the Block 4 F-35s can be fitted with APG-81 instead
- SorryNotPossible.jpg
- Had to carry gym weight plates at the nose to balance the weight distribution of the plane while flying

Are those photos showing gym plates legit?

My skepticism is based on the following:
  • The setup implies an antenna weight of 180 lb (82 kg) at most, which seems quite lightweight for an AESA radar of that size. This is not counting the mounting "bar", of course.
  • Don't they have mass simulators for this purpose?
  • The plates are not secured in place, which would make transportation quite dangerous since they could move about and shift the mass - and by extension the centre of gravity - within the plane.

Bro, do you even lift?

Can't laugh, though. We all remember the Tornado F2/3 'Blue Circle' radar.

Is the progress impacted by the rare earth ban or is it the result of something far worse???

Yankeesama/Shilao confirms that it has nothing to do with rare earth ban. Let this be a warning to any country that puts shareholder value above actual engineering talent…
