If you watched Zaza in China's video where he broke down his expenses after earning $1400 in December, you would notice the following:

He himself said that that month was unusual as due to some promotions he got extra money. Usual money is closer to usd 1000, and he's unable to save anything from that amount. (of course we can consider what he sends back home as his savings)

$200(!!!) for rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in Shenzhen

He lives with roommates, and not a 1 bedroom. He gets 1 room and shares the common areas with roommates.

Still i enjoy those Zaza videos feels like a really original concept from a ordinary Chinese person. The Ting one feels weird because I have seen her Philippines travel channel before she did this Live in China one.

I might be wrong, but I think the Ting in philippines and the ting in shenzhen are sisters. Not the same person.

Due to the way cities/suburbs are structured in the states you need a car to go to work/shop and basically do anything. Same is not true in most Chinese cities.

Valid point, however I didn't derive my statement based simply on car ownership. These people also live in quite small spaces. Even accounting for PPP differences, their salaries isn't more than 25-30k USD.

Recently some chinese channels of ordinary people with very modest incomes have gotten popular.

These people show their daily life and how they live with their modest income. None of them have got a car. An American with similar position would for sure be enjoying a higher standard of living.

I just so so hope after seeing these channel that the labor supression in China can be ended, and wages can be improved.

Just listing 2 of these below:

When you have superior public transportation system, a car is not necessary. Your concern trolling is very evident.

Yes, but have you considered what you can buy for 25-30k USD in China vs in the US? Do you have any idea? You may think that 25-30k USD is borderline poverty wages, but imagine if your healthcare expenses are extremely minimal? Imagine if you don't need a car? Imagine if rent, even if it's a comparative shack is minimal? For all your complaints about "living in small spaces", it's still better than Hong Kong. I don't see you screaming all throughout the forum about Hong Kong? Why is that?

Also, I want to emphasize this: if you don't need a car, you shouldn't get one. I live in the U.S., and not in NYC, so I basically have to have one to survive. But if I didn't? I wouldn't be driving and I wouldn't have a car. Cars are expensive and fundamentally dangerous devices that take a great deal of skill, attention, and risk appetite to operate. Unless you have a particular penchant for automobiles, most people who don't actually need a car probably wouldn't buy one and have no reason to buy one.

well car is still necessary this is why China is the largest automobile Market in the world with a distant margin

China total automobile sales in 2025 reached staggering 34.4 million units. up 9.4 percent year-on-year. on the other side USA sit on 2nd position with average 16+ million units sales in 2025. China is 2X larger than US but still way less when it comes to per-capita.

but my point is, despite world class public infrastructure and largest high speed rail network our automobile sales is still 2X more than USA. it means people are buying cars. we constantly selling 25-30 millions units annually for past couple of years.

The fundamental flaw is, @jli88 sees China with the eyes of USD.. which is completely wrong as everybody knows RMB value is much higher than the current exchange rate(1 USD=6.9 RMB). China artificially control Yuan. this is why despite the 1/6th of USA per-capita income we spend much more than that in different physical goods.

I don't know how long this will last. I think it’s more about that rebellious side of Western culture where the Western powers have been preparing their citizens for the grand conflict with China they’ve wanted for decades and it’ll come at “regular” people’s expense and people are realizing that. Just look at how the elite whether it comes from politicians or the rich, they want their own citizens to sacrifice for what they want. American utility bills are skyrocketing because AI billionaires want everyone to pay what it takes to make them rich. Look at how people openly talk about how Americans have to sacrifice for Israel. And then people like Trump are cutting things like healthcare just so the money that paid for it goes to the rich instead. And the way to counter it in their own way is to do the antithesis of what they’re demanding.

If it lasts a while watch how other Asian countries will say this is happening for them. I get a lot of videos for some reason on my YouTube homepage of other Asian ethnicities trying to claim their countries are of a better opinion from Westerners than China. One somewhat like video I just got today that wasn't from another Asian ethnicity but from a British guy analyzing who actually has more of a polite society? The Japanese or the Chinese? You know that is going to piss a lot of Asians off especially since they go out their way to suck up to Westerners.

I was watching something maybe it was on YouTube where it said tattoos of Filipino characters were a thing like how some Westerners have Chinese or Japanese characters tattooed on their bodies. No they were hoping to make it a thing by saying people need to catch up on the latest trend that wasn't. Now Filipinos are jumping onto the K-Pop bandwagon. Filipinos have their own pop singers. Why do they need to attach themselves to K-Pop when they were doing it a lot longer. Even though Filipinos have their own popular musicians in the West, none of them really stand out as Filipino though. Some of them don't want to acknowledge it but they all don't look like they're Filipino which is what's common. It's like when Latin culture was making waves in the US, all of the sudden I started seeing Filipinos claim they were Latin like it was always that way. It even got attention in the Latin community where I saw something maybe again on YouTube where Latins were asking each other if they saw Filipinos as Latino. And not surprising they said no. Maybe that's the problem with Filipinos. They aren't confident with their own culture where they have to ride off someone else's latest flavor of the month. And what made them that insecure? The very West they worship.

China maxxing wasn't something the Chinese engineered. It just dropped on Chinese laps. Like I said the rebel culture is part of the West. What's more a rebel when China doesn't obey the West and is winning because of it. That's why the Filipinos are a cautionary tale,. The West doesn't respect you when you suck up to them. They'll only learn to respect you when you win against them.

It will probably last for some decades.

We had the Japan-wave starting in the 1980s, then the Korean-wave starting in the 2000s.

But Japan and Korea are just so much smaller than the US.

In comparison, China is/will be a lot bigger than the US
