Well, if you combine HKs import, the total import value would be only short of $70B to equal that of the U.S. import would it not?
Hong Kong’s domestic market is tiny (7.5 million people), but its re‑exports are enormous. In 2023, Hong Kong re‑exported HK$2,661B worth of goods. Imports were HK$2,144B in 2024.

Most goods that “enter” Hong Kong don’t stay — they are immediately shipped onward to: Mainland China. Southeast Asia, The US, Europe. Hong Kong is basically a giant logistics hub.

Hong Kong’s economy is built on trade, not manufacturing. Hong Kong is a gateway for Mainland China

The new Hainan Island free trade zone, will become another gateway for Mainland China. It is designed to siphon port traffic from snobbish Singapore.

Melting pot? It’s not like India had much of a choice. Every time invaders came, the Indians rolled over. Otherwise, why would there be hundreds of millions of Muslims there today?
Because Islam offered the Shudras and Dalits (lower castes Hindus who form the majority of the population) an escape from the perpetual enslavement by Brahmins. Hindu scriptures are very clear on this topic of stratification - Brahmin is the head, Shudra are the feet, and Dalit are below the feet. Islamic invaders further protected the converts.

This is a core belief of Hinduism which will always push people out of it's fold if opportunity arises.

Wasn't Shenzhen originally envisaged to counteract this effect away from HK?

Islam in the sub continent inherited the caste system from Hinduism and the 'non-existance of caste in theology' isnt the 'primary reason' of higher muslim populations.

Ashraf (nobility/foreign descent), Ajlaf (converted lower castes), and Arzal (Dalit converts) is a well followed stratification. Untouchability too is practiced widely just like Hinduism.
