There is a claim that a Thai VT-4 tank, while firing against the Cambodian side, suffered a burst barrel and exploded, injuring 3 crew members.

But if it were the barrel itself, it shouldn't look like this. It seems more likely to be a breech failure, ammunition malfunction, user error, or a hit from an anti-tank missile.

What are your thoughts?

They probably forgot to clean the barrel; look at how dirty the tank is.

If barrel explosions are not happening to Ukrainian and American tanks, then that’s really bad.

There seems to be a video of a "PHL-03" used by Cambodia to strike a Thai target, i am very doubtful on its authenticity but the audio for on its own is compounding my confusion hense why I post it. It obviously isnt a bomb, because those tend to not have rocket trails. And i dont know why Thais would record it unless they already knew it was coming? If it turns out to be a bomb which is maybe is, than I would ask for the admins to move this post to the more centered Cambodia-Thai thread

  • 0:02: Just before the impact, he says, "ห้าร้อยปอนด์ สองลูกว่ะ" (Hâa rói bpon, sǎawng lûuk wà), which translates to "500-pounders, two of them!"
  • 0:04: After the explosion, he shouts, "โอ๊ย หลุมมันลึกเป็นสิบฟุตเลย" (Ói, lǔm man lúek bpen sìp fút loei), meaning "Oh! The crater is like ten feet deep!"
  • 0:07: As the smoke rises, someone shouts, "หายไปครึ่งลูกเลย" (Hǎai bpai krûeng lûuk loei), meaning "Half the hill is gone!" (or "Half of it disappeared!").

Comment from Narongdet Compirom, the actual gunner of VT-4

Comment 1: "If you don't know anything, don't express your opinion. This tank has been here since Day One, firing over 200 continuous rounds. Furthermore, the injured person is safe. Don't you dare call our tanks 'trash' (or 'junk'). We rank it as Number 1 on this battlefield. Those who aren't involved shouldn't just talk. The people actually fighting don't criticize it. Don't talk nonsense when you don't know the facts."

Comment 2: "Do you even understand the term 'continuous firing'? If you're so smart, come fight yourself. If you have too many criticisms, go live in Cambodia. Nonsense."

Comment 3: "We are just the users of the military equipment. All we ask for is encouragement. Don't devalue it. That's final. It doesn't matter how many rounds it can fire, but the VT4 is currently the vehicle that can intimidate the Cambodians the best. Thank you for all the comments. We are the ones who use and understand this vehicle. We give it the Number 1 spot on this battlefield."

Its good that they are backing the product, but seems like terrible opsec for frontline troops to be having debates with randoms on Facebook in the middle of war...

I think this is real, maybe its performance is beyond what people consider "normal".
There is a similar clip of PHL-03 training, hitting a target twice at the same point.

If he was given a tank with a western 120mm gun, he would be marrying it instead of his current wife lmao. 200 rounds is nothing to write home about. Embarrassing tbf.
