You all know my lack of Chinese language skills but with the help of translators and my gut-feeing I often still get a few hints, here however I‘m not sure … based on what I understand it sounds a bit of a certain unit gaining a new type, initial issues in transitions, took time but now all is fine … the J-10C is likely just an irrelevant placeholder!

But as I noted, my gut-feeling hints toward a first operational J-20A unit and as such the Wang Hai brigade? Or am I totally wrong?

They were the first to operate J-10 too.

Crosspost from the Flanker thread since it drives be crazy!

I need some help ... at first sight just some regular PLAAF Su-30MKK images from the 85th Air Brigade - no. 69660 & 69566 (?) - including one former naval Su-30MK2 from the former 4th Naval Air Brigade (light grey) but there is one additional Su-30MKK with another serial number! I'm not entirely sure since the quality is not that good, but the number looks like number 620x1, which would correspond to a strange 1xth Air Brigade. (via @中国军号)

But regardless if "x" is a 5, 6, 8 or 9 it makes no sense!

62x5x = 14th AB - unknown
62x6x = 15th AB - currently a J-16 unit
62x8x = 17th AB - unknown
62x9x = 18th AB - currently a J-10C unit

So what do I miss?

PLAAF 49Reg 17Div became PLANAF 10R 4D in 1950s then became 10(? ) th Brigade when 10R absorbed 12R when the reform started a few years ago, then transferred back to PLAAF recently, inherited old AF division number, became 17th Brigade under PLAAF.

It looks like it will become a all Su30mkk/mkk2 brigade with 40 to 50 aircrafts for the foreseeable future.

I have to admit, I didn't find my post in which I promised to post my ORBAT update and it doesn't quite fit into the topic of future strength ... Therefore, here! In any case, it can be moved if wanted:

As such ... I'm open for corrections!

Great work, thanks for sharing your notes. I've checked it over and here are some issues I've spotted:
  1. 2nd AB is nowhere, it should be J-20 as per this
  2. 6th AB is nowhere, it should be STC. I'm not sure what they're flying but probably either Su-30, Su-35, or J-16
  3. 54th AB should probably be J-16 as per this
  4. 96th AB is listed under JH-7 in both ETC and NTC, I believe it's just NTC
As a more generalized matter I also feel like we're probably missing some units somewhere because if you count up all the AB (ignoring H-6 and HQ/FTTB) then it's 60 AB (including the missing 2nd and 6th but only counting the double entry 43rd, 46th, 93rd, and 96th once). If we assume there are approximately 2000 or so planes (which I'm not even sure includes JH-7) then each AB would need 30 planes plus 200 for HQ/FTTB. There might be some AB that's at 30 but I think the average per AB is less than 30. This is a guesstimate though and I don't have concrete proof for this so take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks a lot ... will add them immediately after school! Sorry!
