The problems are piling up.

Biden had to deal with China, the Middle East situation, and the Ukraine War.

Trump, has to play the same hand inherited from Biden.

Out of those three situations, there is only one where there still is some serious negotiations taking place, and people still willing to negotiate.

So Trump going out of his way trying to smooth things over, makes perfect sense.

China can help certain areas of the US economy, where the MAGA base lives. Israel and Ukraine only sucks out assets from America.

No more bullshit.

That could be the real message from the increased strictness of the rare earths export controls.

:D

To be honest, for a considerable period I maintained that Trump genuinely sought to save America in his own way, and indeed he recognised the nation's problems. But he simply lacked the capacity to improve the situation.
But now, I believe he came to power solely to satisfy his own vanity and line his pockets.
If you really thought that he was anything more than a grifter, especially after his 1st term, you might have to consider doing a CT scan to see how many brain cells you have left.

Damn, that's a soft old man. If he were a tomato at the supermarket, he'd be the one that makes you cringe while immediately dropping after picking it up because it feels like an 80 year old tit with leakage. I thought this guy was threatening to beat people's asses during dinner parties. Where's that tough guy at??

I never read The Art of the Deal but it must not be a very good book if it doesn't tell you that you can't make public your intent to deescalate or that will be all you're doing while the other side pushes forward. It's pretty much like putting OBO (or best offer) next to the price tag of an item. Now you're never getting asking price no matter who shows up unless he's as stupid as you are. Don't say it but determine, based on the interaction with the customer, if you need to come down on the price a little or if you can stand firm because he really needs/loves it.

Apparently there will be working-level talks in DC this week (on the sidelines of previously planned summits), followed by ministerial talks. Trump-Xi meeting is back on at APEC.

“There has been substantial communications over the weekend,” Bessent said in an interview on Fox Business, adding that more “staff level” talks are expected this week in Washington when Chinese officials are in town for the annual fall meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Bessent also said he expects President Donald Trump will still meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea in late October, just before that country hosts the annual meeting of leaders from the 21 economies in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.

Bessent said he expected to hold talks in Asia with his Chinese counterpart, Vice Premier He Lifeng, before the Trump-Xi meeting in South Korea.
