The question was on Iranians, so I assumed in the modern sense. Not iranic, which are most populations in central Asia. Sogdians were not heavily assimilated at the time, they were able to keep their customs, language etc. there just weren't enough chinese there, since only soldiers and merchants, not too many settlers.
