Salyut was not building the AL-222 in Russia too ? I was thinking they were receiving them from Salyut after Ukrainian court seizes Motor Sich from chinese investors.

Ukrainian government stopped Chinese investors from taking-over MS not the supply of Engines. last time when i checked the list of Russian engines to China. it was only AL-31 and D-30s. so this trainer engine came from Ukraine. but i will cross check again.

Salyut just localized AL-222 engine for their own yak-130 Trainer aircraft.

Salyut localized the Al-222 engine in like 2015.

From what I understand the hot section was made in Russia already, they just had to replicate the cold section. And the whole thing used Soviet alloys and materials anyway.

Salyut has been increasing engine lifetime. And developing the new SM-100 engine to replace the Al-222.

What I am more interested is in how the Chinese are coping with this situation but information on these programs in China is scarce to say the least.

This horsey of opting for the AI-222 instead of minimising dependency on other countries and get on with the WS-17 program deserves every crap that's being thrown at it.

I hope they learn this lesson properly and don't make the same mistake (cough, WS-10H/2, cough).

i have said the exactly same thing.. AVIC didn't receive a single shipment from Ukraine since 2022..

but they are still producing JL-10 also showcase dedicated naval variant. see this below

1. how long do you think stockpile can last. its been 3 years already.

2. how long it can take for AECC to manufacture smaller AL-222 engine at home..

3. AVIC still signed agreement with UAE in 2023 despite they knew it, Engines are not coming from Ukraine..

it means they are okay with Engine supply line..

for the very first time, i have doubt on Guancha trio information.. maybe they don't have updated info regarding JL-10.

could be related with uninterrupted Engine supply.. again saying.. it is peanuts for AECC to build AL-222 engine right now. maybe they are already doing this.

coincidently AECC announced its plan for 15th Five year period just in summer.. they will focus on small/medium size aircraft Engines in this five year plan period.. this category has long been neglected.
