A more technical question if i may. That AFM article says PAF thought indian Su-30MKIs were armed with Derby missiles. However in other places i read such plans were dropped to focus on integrating Astra. I found only one pic depicting Derby on Su-30 so far. So which is accurate, the Su-30s do or do not carry Derbys, and if so are there more pictures showing such a loadout? What about WVR missiles?

Does it matter what they carried since they were outsticked by PL-15 by 80-100KM? They can carry broomsticks and the result would be no different.
That's for ones technical and nerdy curiousity, irrespective of the fact that they were outranged by the PL-15.
Astra is very fresh missile. Series from 2019-2022 were effectively LRIP (50 and 248+48 pieces, latter number going to naval air arm). First proper production batch for air force was started in jan. 2024, and production line was cleared for FRP in August 2024. Less than one year before Sindoor. I frankly doubt it was fully available to units.
It's India, i.e. a lot of breaking news (read - journalists desperate for headlines) premature reporting (which @Deino loves), where you have to very carefully read what actually happens and when.

If Indians, their government and their media conspire to hide their losses and come up with imaginary victories, then it doesn't really matter how many victories you do win.
They still spew propaganda that they killed 40 chinese soldiers in galwan. They keep spewing lies so many times that eventually it becomes alternative version of events.
Unless India is literally forced to surrender on live TV, I don't think you ever get truth from them.

Makes sense, modern missiles have a ability to regain locks on targets if it misses, which is more of a testament to the power of the PL-15E's radar. There's a reason India love all these tiny skirmishes where nothing really changes. That way they can make up all these stories for bollywood.
Its kind of hard to make up something like 1962 because not only is there footage, people will ask if India won then why is China still holding that piece of land? No matter what stories you make up, actual gains speak for themselves.
