Wasn't there a rumor posted here 3 or 4 years back that Huawei was dissatisfied with SMEE's progress and that it poached 1/2? of their engineers?
Yes. Havok said this.Wasn't there a rumor posted here 3 or 4 years back that Huawei was dissatisfied with SMEE's progress and that it poached 1/2? of their engineers?
I totally agree however I feel like the government's priority is still on domestic production and self sufficiency. The entire thing makes me really annoyed at HW. SMEE and now AMIES has done backend scanner well enough for over 500 deliveries. They are not that incompetent.
At the end of the day, there has to be some separation between the chip producers, equipment makers and OEMs. Having Huawei control everything critical is not good for the long term health of China's semiconductor industry.
so far what we have seen in Lithography subsystem and parts suppliers, Huawei barely has any link with them. like U-Precision , RSLaser , Guoke , Guowang , Changchun and others. How much control Huawei has in the lithography field will depend on their control on the supply chain. If the relationship is like ASML and their suppliers, then they may have exclusivity when comes to acquiring critical lithography subsystems and components, limiting other companies entering the field. If not then other companies could enter the market and compete.

I think in my opinion that doesn't looks like that subsystem manufacturers have exclusivity to any company, I do think that Naura and maybe even ACMR are probably going to enter lithography field with their own systems, I-Line, KrF and maybe even dry ArF.
Chinese government doesn’t like exclusivity arrangements in the supply chain.so far what we have seen in Lithography subsystem and parts suppliers, Huawei barely has any link with them. like U-Precision , RSLaser , Guoke , Guowang , Changchun and others.
Lithography supply chain is multi-layered with subsystem of subsystem.. Huawei can only contribute with its immense R&D but they can't control entire supply chain.
