It's impossible to make a 110 MW turbine based on the WS-10. More like 14-16 MW.

I thought the Taihang series of gas turbines are all in some way based on the WS-10 core.

this project ''R0110'' actually one of the rare industrial gas turbine program initiated by China Aero Engine on behalf of China's Ministry of Science and Technology back in 2002.. this a very old project.

this industrial gas turbine is not based on WS-10 engine.. its roots goes back to QC-280 gas turbine which is itself based on UGT-25000.

now all major industrial/Marine gas turbine programs undertaken by CSSC and Dongfang , Shanghai Electric, Harbin.

The naval gas turbines are like 28 MW. So no. The GTD-110 with 110 MW was also originally designed in Soviet Ukraine but it is a way bigger engine.
The engine was still in development when the Union collapsed.

this thread honestly is just getting tiresome. We now have a situation where China can mass produce a whole lineup of engines across all product line and no domestic projects are held back. And people are still complaining.

The significance of them being able to create so many UCAVs due to availability of domestic engines is quite big.

I think the issue isn't the absolute length of the wait for the WS-15, it's the fact that it was delayed again and again, which really makes one start to lose confidence in China's engine tech. It also doesn't help that we are constantly getting criticized for inferior engines whenever compared to western fighters.

People really have not remembered how long it took for WS-10 to be actually fielded and the engine status for the 90s and 2000s.

Technological development is not a geopol self esteem contest. Teething issues are a normal part of the development process for new equipment. People should grow up if they want to have serious views about this topic.

It’ll be ready next year. Be patient. For the parade and first batch in service they needed absolute reliability.

The way this will work for J-20A is that people are going to wait and wonder and wait and wonder, and then one day most and then all new production J-20As will be equipped with WS-15s and it'll be considered normal.

That's how it was with J-11B after the first batch used AL-31s and subsequent batches used WS-10s, that's how it is currently with Y-20Bs all being produced with WS-20s.


Engine type upgrades tend to happen slowly for a moment, and then all at once. And naturally people will take the "all at once" for granted fairly quickly after it occurs.

Many people are probably not old enough to remember such times. They are young and spoiled.
