Many people are probably not old enough to remember such times. They are young and spoiled.

Unironically, it would be beneficial for the newer PLA watchers if the PLAAF straight up cancelled the WS-15 and did so in a high profile public way. Learning some humility is not only important, but if anything it is the bedrock of PLA watching.

Technological development is not a geopol self esteem contest. Teething issues are a normal part of the development process for new equipment. People should grow up if they want to have serious views about this topic.
I'd say the importance of WS-15 introduction is as much for domestic consumption as it is demonstration of capability for foreign entities. Geopolitical self esteem is a part of it, but showing capability to others for more buy in is pretty similar to China's space station moment.

It increases the confidence that China is ready to be a global leader, not just economically but also technologically. While we knew that ship had sailed quite some time ago, laymen that sway political will and direction in other countries don't necessarily knew. So while all the cope is noise for us, it can and will confuse less technically inclined laymen, bar an irrefutable proof of capability.

Therefore a capability demonstation is needed for them, just like J-36 & J-50 had done for the 6th gen platform, WS-15 and the future engines will do for the powerplant department. Otherwise most people will default to status quo, which is US & EU.

This is a thread for discussing military technological developments, not for geopolitical signaling.
