A super strong formation would be 3 J20S with 9 CCA, Early warning plane and J16.

EW is a must to confuse your opponent by jamming and spoofing.

At this point, US need to develop a new plane with 2 seat in order to control CCA. They don't have that now because F22 and F35 is a single seater.

so I listened to the video here where the reporter specifically said jamming as one of the main functionalities of J-20S next to C2. So this seems to point to our theory that in MUMT, the controlling aircraft will be further back. I would think if it is doing jamming, then that would give off certain amount of emissions even with the most advanced LPI tech. So in order to not expose it, then there has to be CCAs & other fighter jet in front.

Also, it does raise the possibility of a EW aircraft based on J-20S. The main advantage over J-16D is its design from day 1 to have greater power generation and more interior space (we could swap out IWB space for hosting electronical equipment).

They claim J-20A's radar was designed for combat against F-35 Blk IV.
It's a very reasonable assessment. After all, it was supposed to come in 2025, and big delays on one side aren't automatic for others, unless it's a discovery of some physical barrier.

From that I understand from reading, blk.iv run into something similar to that delayed T-50 by same 5 years: major engineering hubris in key part(appears to be engine)

I wonder why the emphasis; while iirc never stated directly, ew through array is a normal feature of 5th gen (though it indeed took 4 years to make it work on f-35, and it took half design life for f-22). I.e. j-20 should have it too.

Another way to explain it is that it can perhaps be done through the smaller right flank CCA(second row), which has neither space nor visible apertures for weapons or sensors.

Though I will of course stick to my headcanon that they recruit wangba bros for rear seats to overmicro the opfor.

while there is no question all along that J-20 should have very strong EW suite in the jamming and attacking missions, the question is always emission control. PLA is very big into that. Don't give away any kind of RF if you don't have to, especially for your stealth aircraft. Hence the entire using Elint to gather adversary positions, AWACS do the locking on & then A guide B fire kind of setup. And then may your fighter jet turn on radar just for the terminal guidance. Either way, active electronic attack and jamming can be handled by your J-16D, Y-9 and such.
