Short piece on J-20S debut.
It's probably nothing, sometimes they obscure things without any rationale even if it's something we've seen before.
Might be PL-16. Only AAM to enter service without being spotted in the wild even once.
Knowing the PLA/CCTV, I wouldn't be surprised if it was nothing interesting and they're obscuring it because sometimes they're silly.
Putting it another way, just because something is obscured certainly shouldn't be taken as indication that it is done for a good reason lol
I remember one time i think they literally obscured the radome of a J-20 even though by that point there had been innumerable photos and videos of J-20s all over the place (radome included of course)
The reporter uses the designations "J-20, J-20A, J-20S" here.
While sometimes I suppose the designations may be wrong from CCTV, in this case I have no reason to see why the designations would be incorrect, and are consistent with what we've used over the last year or so, and most importantly there is no "fourth variant" (at least no fourth variant with a suffix worth the differentiation) listed.
In Yankeesama’s latest talkshow (towards the end where they started dissing F-35 block 4 upgrade delays) they confirmed that the detection range on J-20A’s radar is x00 against standard RCM targets and the number is “frightening”.
