BYD was the king due to its ruthless ability to scale down the cost. It is able to win price war consistently. These days CPC is limiting involution, so now BYD's advantage diminished.
Is the cost not too low enough already ? lol You think they can still go even lower? . I’ll be surprise if they can sell even cheaper than what they are selling now without taking losses .That will be more than a bloodbath for themselves and everybody else. Last I remembered it’s not just the Chinese government that was uncomfortable with the unsustainable never ending price wars for market share, even BYD executives complained about this as well.

So I don’t think any player was happy about the situation. More like they had no choice than to follow suite once a competitor made such a move to remain more competitive and maintain their share. But it wasn’t a sustainable method. Need to compete on other aspects other than just price, and differentiate your products. If price is the only sector they can compete on then they won’t be a dominant player in the long run. There are several other more critical sectors and aspects to compete on as well. After all, they sell their cars in European countries like Britain at almost similar prices to their European competitors, so they can’t rely only on price to compete , that will be a mistake.

lol, that's nonsense. The reason BYD NEV % has shrunk in the past year is due to Geely coming out with Xingyuan and several Galaxy models that really ate into BYD share in the sub 150k RMB market.

I was walking of Haugesund airport to the busstop 3.8km away (no public bus). When I was 1.8km away , I was stopping to check time. A car stopped and picked me up. It was a Chinese electric car. The driver said he loves his Chinese car, it feels new and has many features. When I got off the car, it is a SAIC car.

Latest news: Dongfeng will spin off Voyah into a publicly listed company, and the rest of Dongfeng will be delisted and become private

The latest movement of the theorised Chinese SOE consolidation. It still remains to be seen what will happen especially since the merger with Changan has failed

Once again we see the importance of iterative and incremental gains from hands-on experience.

  • Analysis of comprehensive EV and battery sales data from 13 countries (2013–2020) shows that “learning by doing” — the practical experience gained from producing more of something — cut battery costs by 42%, greater than industry-wide tech upgrades (34%) and other factors like economies of scale.
  • EV purchase subsidies in the U.S., EU, and China combine with learning by doing in a positive feedback loop: more sales mean more production experience, raising EV sales in the 13-country sample by over 200%.
  • China’s domestic content requirements for EV subsidies drove local firms BYD and CATL to scale up quickly. The resulting production experience helped their batteries get cheaper faster than international rivals like Panasonic and Samsung, though the timing of this policy during a technological "catch up" period was key to its success.
  • U.S. and EU subsidies created welfare gains for consumers and firms in Japan and South Korea (e.g., automakers, battery producers). China kept 93% of welfare gains due to low EV imports and domestic battery sourcing.

There was a social media trend of posting Li Auto cars parked badly (lmao). This is actually more serious than it sounds because Li Auto's greatest strength has always been positioning and targeting a certain type of owner. Now their image has exploded and people are avoiding them like the plague.

Also, their 2 BEV launches (Mega and i8) have been duds for various reasons, while their bread and butter large SUV EREVs have been getting squeezed hard by Aito, LynknCo, Onvo and now Nio

From social media Li Auto drivers seem to have inconsiderate driving habits, and lousy driving skills. How true is this image?

Huge accomplishment for BEVs and BYD. It still looks to be limited by the track length rather than top end acceleration & drag. I hope they retry this with a longer test strip, 500 could be possible with more dev work. That and a top speed run with a proper production version could be the crowning achievement for the car.
