For artillery battles every bit of shrapnel defense matters. In a peer battle if your vehicle cannot survive close shots from enemy shells, you have much less time to fire before either you run or risk huge casualties.Oh yes makes sense if that's to protect the driver's compartment.

may be unmanned, or at least a unmanned turret 105mm assault gun? If this is a 122mm howitzer, there is no need to put APS on a unmanned howitzer turretPlease identify this one.
