Your assuming India to be a great economy/power that US has to entice. You are assuming India has the leverage, not US.

I don't think that is the case. It is India that is the dependent on the west for its economy, exports, technology. India is hopelessly outmatched against China.

So, if it wants to maintain any kind of superpower ambitions, it has to be friendly with the west or get smothered by Chinese power.

Then there is leverage that US has because of the Indian migrants coming to US.

I think trump correctly understands correctly that it doesn't have to give freebies to India to make it friendly. It is India that has to bow to be friends to US or get destroyed by China.

As some have stated. India might play the role of Gollum from LOTR. He's an annoying unpleasant guy who you know is the enemy. But he has some use which is most notable at the end of the story where his obsession allowed the ring to be destroyed which Frodo failed to do.

Perhaps Chinese leadership sees it that way. India can hurt China but its limited compared to just how much it can hurt the west. And maybe India or the west don't even know that due to their obsession or hubris.

Only time will tell.

India superpower ambition ends if they agree to the current demands that MAGA/Trump wants. The Americans want unrestrained access to India agricultural market, which employs 44% of the total Indian workforce. It won’t be pretty for social order when 1/3 to 1/4 of your workers become homeless, loaded with debt, angry, and rioting.
