Lots of praise in the West for how Lula is standing up to Trump, especially compared to the capitulation we saw from the EU, Philippines, and Japan.
Combined with the news of the rude awakening India will be getting on Friday, I think the tariffs have finally given BRICS the opportunity to grow its fangs so to speak. In the past, without such external challenges and many member states that didn't necessarily see eye to eye, it was easy to dismiss it as a merely symbolic club of global south nations.
But with Trump now bullying America's closest allies into total economic submission and reorienting its sphere of the global economic order, BRICS is positing itself as a viable alternative economic order where member states are not only guaranteed equitable trading arrangements with one another, but also guarantees of protection and mutual support against such strong arm tactics.
