How did they know that Pakistan is the mastermind when they haven’t even caught the culprit in two months?
Saar! It is well known in India that Pakistan is the most dastardly country! India will go full Bharat mode on Pakistan who gives phull sapport to terrorists! We do not need evidence!

In seriousness, I think the Indian politicians jumped the gun (maybe intentionally) because of how much attention the attack received in the press. And I think they thought that it would be a clean win against Pakistan. Although, it doesn't really matter how it actually turned out for them, because the Indians still think they won by tremendous margins.

We must not forget, that India would actually genocide pakistan if it could. Not conquer and assimilate, conquer and genocide.
I actually asked an Indian friend about the Indian mentality, and as he explained it to me, Hindu nationalists perceive everything with the slightest Hindu influence as being Hindu. He claims that an argument could be made by a Hindu nationalist that Shinto Buddhism (i.e. Japan) is in fact a part of greater Bharat. And so, Hindu nationalists endeavor to conquer 'unite' all of these disparate 'Hindu' elements. Hence those maps of 'ancient Bharat'.

Yep, Basically anything with even slightest buddhist/hindu-ish culture is 'part of greater Bharat' or India's sphere of influence, goes as far japan in some cases, infact Japan has a small RSS(hindutva) right wing thing too, mostly for Indian-nationals.

Frankly, it's like one of those hiveminds in sci-fi that doesn't quite understand that nobody else wants to join them and thinks that everyone would be much happier with them and so attempts a forcible 'enlightenment'. Luckily, so long as they're still stuck trying to get Punjab back together, they won't be very able to turn elsewhere.
