Elements within the US want the country to focus more on China and divert resources for this cause.

Meanwhile, the PH is actively being groomed to become a frontline asset when the time comes to confront China.

I wonder if Elbridge Colby overextended himself. Sounded like he made a pretty unilateral decision on the Ukraine aid stoppage which Trump was not a fan of. Might result in his influence getting cut back.

Actually Elbridge Colby doesn't want to fight China over Taiwan. He is a realist and wants to slowly retreat away from East-Asia as well.

Source please? That's really not the impression i've gotten of him but maybe he's shifted recently and I haven't noticed.
I have been following his twitter account, and before joining the Trump admin he was very active there. A lot of his twits was about how US cannot fight China in its own backyard and win with its current capabilities.

I also followed him for a while, but as I recall it the main thrust of his argument was "if USA+allies in Asia don't all start building the wall against China then we already have lost, also please give me a job mr president," which I understood to mean he's advocating for a more muscular presence in East Asia rather than just giving it up since the current forcast looks bad for the USA.

Guys like Colby might flirt with realism on twitter but MIC paycheques (guys gonna get a nice one after this gig is over) rest on the assumption of infinite shilling for US milshit eating into more and more of the budgets of East Asian allies.
