It is really difficult to get rid of waste heat in the vacuum of space.

Case and point. The ISS generates between 84-120kW of electrical energy routinely, waste heat had to be dissipated with multiple radiators similar in size to the massive solar panels. A megawatt class laser in space will have heat problems several orders of magnitude beyond what currently exists.
In some sci-fi novels i read, one get rid of heat by attaching a super (measured in kilometres) long carbon fibre string to a spacecraft.

So if a company developing DEW technology claims that their IP can be scaled to engage cruise and ballistic missiles, and is "platform agnostic" (so long as the mission platform can support their claimed power requirements), then should they be assumed to be a total scam, to have failed to add an *asterisk to exclude space based platforms, or would such IP be technically feasible for a DEW that isn't a chemical laser?

Some companies are trying to get a slice of the Golden Dome budget and pretending this nontrivial technology is somehow within reach, suspiciously, within in the next 3-4 years, almost like they have to lock in contracts now while conditions are favorable to them.
Having said that, there are many groups working on directed energy and it's not totally unreasonable that some can move quickly into prototype phase if directed under some DoD black budget. NG has good experience with MW class lasers from YAL-1.

Perhaps Hegseth should give the August 1st Building a call. Maybe China can offer to build the 054AE FFGs for the US Navy instead?
Well, it's obvious that Trump already likes the J-35 so maybe the Americans can get a package deal! :)

Some of the stuff that Hegseth decided to kill were probably pretty good ideas: the XM7 never looked promising, and the M10 Booker should have never been approved. But the rest? It's a mess. I think the worst of them all is the decision to kill the E-7 and to make the USAF use E-2s. May 7 just taught us all about how important AWACS support is to modern air combat, and the Americans decided to cripple their ability in this sphere! It just feels like sabotage.

What if they actually got their space based AEW constellation working, they've been testing space based aircraft tracking for a while. While I don't think canning E-7 is a good idea because they definitely can't bring such a constellation online in the near future but once they do they could have global tracking capability even right in the middle of Chinese airspace, every single Chinese sortie is going to be tracked and there's no good counter to this. China should work to get their own system online to not fall behind in the new space race.

That’s like asking what if the Chinese space based solar project is actually a microwave/laser Death Star and imagine the horrors if it actually works.

More and more finding US is now too rush to focus on anything, too slow to finish anything.

US right now:
1) Approve B to replace A.
2) Years later: Cancel B due to delay and overcost.
3) Approve C to replace A.
4) Years later: Cancel C due to delay and overcost.
5) ...

More and more ppts are proposed year by year, countless money pours in, little actual progress is seen, only continuously changing concepts.
