From around the time when I was in college, there was a whole slew of Jewish racist comedians that had especially some sort of grudge against Chinese/Asians. Howard Stern was famous because of his insensitivity towards other races. He would hide behind the liberal excuse he was actually exposing racism but he didn't like anyone making jokes about Jews. There was a comedian Bobby Slayton who would complain that he wasn't getting jobs because of his hate-filled line of jokes against Chinese that scared comedy clubs in hiring him. Andrew Dice Clay would refer to Asians as the people of the color of pee. Racists loved that one and never got old with them. What's the punchline? Because he referred to Asians as pee and nothing else? Sarah Silverman had a joke about how she would avoid jury duty by just saying she hated chinks. Mind you this was on a late night talk show and she had to tell the jokes first to the show's producer to get approval where she actually said she hated N-words out loud but the producers said that was unacceptable so she changed it to chinks instead. She got a lot of criticism for the joke from Asian groups but then unapologetically bragged how she got more jobs because of it. There was also actor/comedian Brad Garrett who behind the scenes on the TV sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond went after someone working on set and had a problem with because he or she was Asian. There was Chinese actress named Charlene Yi famous for the Asian character in the movie Knocked Up. Well she was working on another show with comedian David Cross who was a vocal liberal Democrat. Apparently he was harassing her for no reason with condescending questions about her being Asian. When she went public with this, Cross was apparently devastated that this story was exposed publicly. Is it because he knows it looked racist or was it because it went public?

And all of this was way before Oct. 7th where the Jewish lobby has been on an anti-China campaign where they think China is a legitimate target for their ire because China isn't showing them the proper respect in blind defense and support of Jews because of the antisemitic hate that has been thrusted on their people... And they don't understand why Asians are unsympathetic... Doing nothing even not in history engaging with any antisemitism against them is a crime but actively hating on Asians is all right.

To be pedantic, this doesn't say US automakers received license. It says the suppliers in China received export license. These suppliers doesn't exclusively supply to US. They have customers in Europe and elsewhere too. The article doesn't say they got the permit to export to US. Just that they got export license and they happen to be suppliers to US automakers too. IMHO, these headlines are cleverly worded to mislead. They could have said "Exporters received license to supply to US automakers", if the license allowed to export to US.

There's also this bit in the article, which suggests US companies haven't received license so far. GM and Ford declined to comment. Stellantis is "trying to get license" and only have stock for "immediate production"
GM and Ford each declined to comment. Stellantis said it is working with suppliers "to ensure an efficient licensing process" and that so far the company has been able to "address immediate production concerns without major disruptions."

In the Trump original tweet after the call he didn't say China agreed to it. If indeed he got that he would have posted that in big letters, because that would have been a big win for him. Instead he posted a vague statement saying that they both acknowledged that RE is a complex issue.

IMHO, If China already gave-in and removed the ban on RE then US have received the only thing they are after and they wouldn't be going to London on Monday to meet with China.

....

Is " association is not causation" applicable though?
I remember saying the same thing some time ago, I got the feeling the Chinese leadership isn't interested in forming blocs or another Cold War. All that it does it plays into the US advantages. China will do well to turn down any stupid Yalta 2.0 agreement and continue downplaying any new Cold War, there's no cold war there's just a waning power trying to re-live its glory days and it's lashing out because it knows its best days are behind it.

I think China will keep the export ban on US military companies, knowing that there'll be some smuggling. But it's not in China's interest to crash global manufacturing of cars, electronics, etc for consumer use. Too much blowback politically and economically.

Not "global manufacturing", just US manufacturing. Blowbacks are quite acceptable in this case.

Trump put US in such position of weakness it would be foolish to not utilize it to the fullest extracting considerable concessions from the US. And small stuffs like semiconductor ban or student visa cannot satisfy China's appetite, only Taiwan may sate it somewhat

you have any hints or rumours of your claim?
1 Timing, and things Trump openly talks about.

I don't think Assad knows. One of Assad's brothers (head of the 4th division) was killed in his home shortly before the blitz.

2 Yet again, Putin is going to pressure Iran to cave.
