Kashmir was instantaneous, limited yet intensive, with victory decided by "points". I.e. the logic is basically opposite, AWACS presence is justified and crucial even if it's directly under fire(modern heavy sam's can intercept other heavy sams, the question is for how long until there will be a fail)

He also said in the video: plane was already on fire when it came here, circled around the village area for 1.5 minutes and then crashed.
^^ That suggests pilot was in the aircraft. If ejecting, he should've been nearby.
