Trump 2.0 official thread

Once it gets big enough, the China hawks will outlaw any Chinese ownership as a national security threat for whatever bullshit excuse. I don’t know why you guys are acting like they haven’t done that before. They are literally paranoid by the mere sight of a Chinese person.

That's fine, if it's big enough then they would've made their money back already, and the US would've learned the quality of Chinese products. It'll then end up like the mythical beasts from Germany when China had 100% tariff on Mercedes, for example.

Companies do not operate on the business of being a charity. What executive board is going to agree to spending years of time, supply chain negotiations, vast sums of money, legal work etc while knowing fully that the asset will be stolen. Then the shareholders will ask why are you wasting years and resources that provides zero tangible benefits for the company. Is their duty to create an competitor against themselves or to grow their company.

correct. I don’t think China is factoring that into their negotiations. They said they are not going to play the numbers game.
145 or 80% makes no difference.
It only makes no difference to a US public school math class.
Trump wants China to manufacture I n America.

China wants that too as a way to gain U.S. market share.

win win. There’s your trade deal. No need to wait for official an announcement.
LOLOLOL Your imaginary deal with yourself is good enough?
I can see why US and U.S. manufacturers are against that.

Why would China reject the offer of setting up factories in America?
Because American manufacturing is lazy, inefficient, and the country is politically unstable.
Russia done it already. EU can do it too. Hasn’t stopped Chinese investments into EU.
The US is China's existential enemy. The others are business; this is life.
Tariffs and protectionism are the main reasons why Chinese companies are not in the U.S.
I don't think you understand these terms. If they were effective, they would be the reason that Chinese companies are in the US. But they're not and we're not.
If ann offer is made to have them dropped, would BYD and others not set up shop in the U.S?
Because the US is insane? It takes billions of dollars and years of effort to set up and automobile manufacturing line. Trump can sign one executive order confiscate it on national security or declare that Chinese companies have to pay a trillion dollar operating fee a year. Businessmen don't deal with crazy people.

They'll be fine with it if they make a profit. GM for example can write down 100% of their investments in China and still come out ahead with like a 400% profit due to the money they made the past 10-15 years.

That environment is long gone. Have you paid attention to the rhetorics and anti-China laws/policies that came out of American elites in the last few years?

But also true that the America controls the initiate. Which side initiated the trade war?

If tomorrow America says we going to make nice. Truly welcome Chinese investments, China is going to say no?

Starting a trade war is very different from controlling the initiative. Anyone can start shit. It takes power to control the initiative. America's in Q1 recession while China's growing 5.4% with exports rising. America does not control these talks.

We will outwardly shake hands, but underneath, we will know not to make any true overtures because Trump is unstable and untrustworthy. Even Americans cannot truly invest in their own manufacturing because they don't know what his policies will favor 1 month from now.
