It insults US more that they can't take a single Chinese province despite trying for like 70+ years and seem to be running bankrupt now in the process of attempting. All without ever mustering courage to fire shots at PLA since Korea.
In the meantime China will just keep screwing in the thumbscrews tighter on the average American's finances, and see what kind of insane wacko Americans will promote next to save their economy. The US already controls the island. It's leaders are literally American property, much like Zelensky and Scholz and they will commit suicide for the US right now if the US required them to do so. Their leaders visit the island whenever they please. They sell it weapons overtly and likely covertly as well. They continue to propagandize the population into hating China and the longer this goes on, the harder it will be for China to recapture the island. They already take orders from the US by sanctioning China and restricting the export of certain items such as advanced chips that limit China's progress. They are already the property of the US are very hostile towards China, so what you said up there is nothing but pure denial, a major cope, and a contradiction to your previous statement regarding its leaders being cucks.
If they controlled the island they wouldn't be trying to fight a war over it.
The situation is exactly like the Donbass after 2014. Yes the central government doesn't have great control on the ground, there are invader friendly proxies and shit running around. But US still needs to do it's own version of 2022 and a peace deal after that before it can claim to have any real control. That's why America has been building up military forces and trying to have economic autarky, even if they are realising it's very hard to gather sufficient forces.
At any moment, China can decide to launch a counteroffensive, and even make the military safety zone expand far beyond Chinese territory. Basically what Russia was afraid Ukraine would do in Kursk and Belgorod, except Ukraine doesn't have the missiles, doesn't have the 6th gen fighters, doesn't have the industry. It is just cope that US already has control when they haven't even proven able to push their own troops in, let alone successfully stopped any counteroffensives.
They have surrounded it with bases and continue expanding the area with more and more bases to protect their investment. What more do you expect them to do exactly? You are not making a serious argument here. On the other side you have China conducting bullshit exercises and theatrics and nobody buys that nonsense. Nobody thinks China is serious about Taiwan and deterrence on it's own borders. The US has so many ships spread out around the world and China has so many ships concentrated on it's coasts that it could easily blockade Taiwan and collapse it's economy within a week without firing a single shot, yet they refuse to do so willingly despite the risk of them looking like a joke. If China was to go the US border and start building bases right on the US coast, the US would obliterate these bases without giving it a second thought, that's why nobody even dares to attempt to do such a thing. That is the difference between the US deterrence and China's lack of it.
You confuse theatrics with victory.
Maybe China isnt buiding nuclear carriers for Taiwan, maybe Taiwan is already in the bag and China's aiming for bigger fish.
Maybe bases next to China are just Chinese bases the moment they become contested in any war. Maybe real military bases are those you can defend.
Maybe China is past winning without fighting vis a vis Taiwan, maybe China is going for winning without fighting vis a vis America

Bases are weak when there's nearly no one in them, and furthermore it is a joke because the bases are all on US occupied countries, where in theory US can get infinite bases, yet instead of at least Putin's play of building up a credible invasion force on the border, US dallies with adding 1 supply base a year, adding a single air defense battalion or something half hearted like that.
It shows they are afraid of escalating even when it's all in their own territory. Why not deploy a credible force to Korea, why not station comparable firepower to the ETC in Japan or Philippines? Instead we get sales of 1 himars brigade to Pinoy peasants and are supposed to buy this is a credible invasion force???
US is buying it so much they elected senile Biden to fix the economy that Trump ruined by confronting China. And when that also failed, they elected Trump again on the single issue voter issue of economics.
If Washington, the world's no2 economy and largest military power by numbers is buying it, why aren't you?

The beauty of being on defense with an abundance of supplies is that you can counterattack at any moment and the other guy just has to anxiously sit around and wait for it.
No, US would do nothing. They have done nothing kinetic against China even as China openly endorses and sends Russians to kill them (including US spec ops, volunteers, consultants etc) on their own heartland of Europe. They won't even institute total sanctions, because this isn't affordable. What they will do is to complain on twitter, they will ban a random Chinese boomer official from visiting US, and if they're feeling extra tough, try to coerce a deal from a private actor like Tiktok or CK but instantly give up the moment CN govt regulators look into it.
