If these Chinese EV companies want "free" advertising in the US for their cars, all they have to do is give some of these cars for free like to this guy. That way there would be pressure to let Chinese EV companies to sell their cars in the US because guys like this will be showing them off where others will want one too. I believe custom made cars can get a permit to have them drive street legal in the US but they have go through some hurdles so why not this one. Plenty of celebrities get free stuff from companies just as long as they use them in public.

Bro, I agree with the spirit and logic of the arguments you're making. We don't need to get so worked up about this needlessly. I too am leary and is suspicious that the Chinese contractor may have a hand with the abysmal quality work on that collapse building. But as others pointed out we should see how the investigation unfolds and I do hope these numbnuts (if they are indeed cutting corners) must be punished to the fullest extent of the law so that Chinese firms who are ethical aren't dragged to the mud further given credence to the tired but well entrenched cliche of China tofu construction.

I'm didn't start this mudslinging. We have a member here who accuses me for fabricating lies and not knowing what I'm saying. When I am giving my opinion as to why I think the Chinese company was partly culpable for the building collapse. I made my statement out of my experience in the construction industry. There are systems and standards, and when people flaunt them, they should be held accountable, not brushed under the carpet for political convenience. I will not accept this kind of behaviour. No matter who's side they are on.

I was merely pointing out political stupidity. Dismissing science and procedure for politics. I don't think it's wise for you to empathize with that guy over me just because we want to protect the image of the Chinese construction industry. I want to see the bad actors corrected, and I have seen my fair share of bad actors. But some people just want to dismiss any criticisms of Chinese companies as politically motivated.

Pretty sure all the tariff on China is already +100% from the last several years. Trump threatening China with more tariffs over buying oil the US doesn’t approve which will likely include Russia sooner or later. I wonder if the smooth brains can get tariffs to 1000% before the mid terms.

Of course a Taiwan operation would need boots on the ground. This is a discussion for another thread, but a regime-change operation like a Taiwan scenario has a different endgame than "hit-the-reactor" situations like Iran (and historically Syria)

Why?
Any reunification with Taiwan basically needs control of the ocean around Taiwan. That's why china developed and focused on A2/AD of US forces near Taiwan.

If the US isn't able to project power around Taiwan, Taiwan will just be subjected to naval blockade and constant missile and drone bombardment. They can continue in perpetuity. Sure Taiwan can bomb some cities but how long can they do that without supplies.

Why risk boots on the ground?

I largely agree with you, and I feel that the Chinese government must uphold SOEs to a higher standard than other countries. At this point, the devil is in the details; the minor evidence needs to be concrete, like who was responsible for procuring the sub-standard steel bars, and the removal of the files could be just normal procedure.

You are right, that is the answer.

There is no meaningful way to deal with people like this Stubb person.

Then on the other hand, at least he is not like the ultra-right-wing of America, where China has to threaten them constantly if required. Those people want to wipe China off the map basically.

The only way to deal with people Stubbs, is a stunted low level kind of relations. Some trade, some cultural exchanges. It would not be easy to go beyond that with the mistrust that deep.

A good example of this Stubbs type of relationship, is the present day, as Wang Yi said like yesterday that there could be no negotiations about fentanyl until the Americans rescind their new tariffs. That will not happen, so that is it for now.

The relationship cannot develop, so do not even try. Set the conditions to make it better.

Diplomacy still works. Sometimes, it just takes a long time.
