It's the rest of the world's fault for falling behind in the first place, though. Other cultures and civilizations have to ask themselves how they were so caught with their pants down when Europeans came knocking with their steel ships and guns. It's by far the greatest lesson the last few centuries have taught - keep up or face extinction.

Sadly only China seems to have taken the lesson to heart. The rest of the countries are either Western vassals wholly dependent on Western technologies / weapons / markets, or they're still effectively stuck in the 19th century or earlier. If China did not exist, I genuinely think the West under a leader like Trump could just up and repeat the Age of Colonialism and nobody would be able to stop them.

This is why they hate China. Before the rise of China, there were no limits to their power; they could do anything to anyone and the only constraint would be their own conscience. Now, they have to be careful, or risk China exploiting the situation; the world should thank China for that.

Besides the gloating about America shooting itself in the foot, for those who are in the US this is some serious shit. Definately keep a close eye on acquaintances who are H1-bs, Green Card holders, or haven't obtained any of the sort yet. I'm sure they're informed and will do their best to avoid foreign travel, but sometimes emergencies require it and they'll need a contact if they run into trouble.

Yet somehow we give Sweden a free pass. Their most notable contributions in recent times are Minecraft and Pewdiepie which are actually over a decade old now.

The Nobel Prize is "internationally esteemed" because Anglo-American elites, especially in the media, propped it up with hype.

It made sense for a number of Anglo-American elites to publicly venerate the Nobel Prize because receiving the Nobel Prize benefited their public personas, or at least those of their buddies and/or favored subjects.

For all practical purposes, the Nobel Prize is basically a circular exercise in credibility and prestige by way of soft power.

To correctly echo this, after a collapse in western media control, China would put Gambia or some other obscure nation as the judge and jury for that prize, run some ongoing third party media programs extolling how enlightened Gambians were, their contributions to ancient medicine and agriculture, and you would have the third generation from now lapping it up.
